I think they just didn't want people disrespecting other players with taunts in anon online battles.  Inceneroar still does his automatic ones because that's that character's flavor and it's basically uncontrolled and meaningless. He still can't manually taunt either.  So I understand why they did it.

That said I don't agree with the decision.  Instead in my experience people do what a friend of mine calls 'squishy dancing'* in place of a taunt, where they just have their character duck a bunch of times, I guess to indicate laughter? vOv  Still has the same effect, so why not keep the taunts in?

I mean... I couldn't say with any certainty given I've never talked to someone that did it and had a chance to ask, but historically repeated taunt-like crouching in a game is reference to teabagging someone. It goes from vaguely implied to near-enough explicit if there's a body to do it near/over/on.

Yeah that’s teabagging. I know it happens in Dead By Daylight; survivors do it to taunt killers who are either camping or have just been had in some manner, often at the exit gate(s).

That said, taunting in online matches should be a thing, imo.
