It starts with a) a basic lack of respect for the anonymous person following you and b) not owning up to your own shit before someone has to call you on it. Could be the bathroom, could be traffic, it’s the same shit.

In my case, it isn't “well terrible things are happening elsewhere”, it is "that's so minor that the janitor will barely even notice it as he cleans it up". You would not believe the sort of things I have to clean up on a daily basis.

But also Mathel wouldn’t that resistor have the same heat issues as the stepdown converter?

It certainly would. It would take slightly more power than the device (13/11) and convert it all to heat.

Not really. they just need beefier solid state components inside.  It would actually draw fewer amps to do the same work at 240v.  Typically, it is a cost saving move to develop products specifically for a specific market environment, where the mains power has a local standard. In the US, this is 110v @ 50 to 60hz. If you design your hardware around that standard voltage source, you can maximize economy of scale, and avoid adding "unneeded" power regulation hardware into the device's design, allowing you to make a less expensive product.

For devices that need to service many locales, the inclusion of "redundant" (since only one will be active at a time) power regulation circuitry becomes a necessary evil, and these products are of necessity, more expensive.

If there is no market for a 240v version of the appliance, then the manufacturer wont make one, because "expensive sourcing of higher voltage components at little to no demand for the finished product, is not how you make profit."
