I have an entire lifetime of experience to prove that is entirely false. This has been going on for several years, and hasn't stopped. When they do their drive-bys, the drive off before any response. They don't do it for the response, they're perfectly happy knowing they just shit on someone's day regardless.

I can only assume, but I'm fairly certain that manufacturers were trying to make the pods look cool in order to get their marks customers to think they were new and improved.
