I do, now -- thanks to Yoink, actually. It works well as a flavorant for onion gravy on fried tofu or lotus root chips.

I still need to get around to making a proper gravy using Vegemite. Definitely on my to-do list, but I've never made gravy before so who knows how that will turn out.

There's a spot on one of my backmost teeth, I can't tell if there's a piece of something jammed into/between the tooth or if piece of it broke off.

Update on this. Bought one of those dental mirrors that let you see the inside of your mouth at different angles. It looks like the tooth is cracked in half, with one half starting to turn black.

...I won't be able to get to the dentist until at least next Thursday.

Ohh christ. If it's that bad, you probably need to get to a dentist way sooner than that. If there is absolutely any to get there sooner I strongly advise you do so.

You're in Canada aren't you Akura (or maybe that was blackflyme)? Wouldn't there be some sort of clinic you can go to? Not sure what you mean by you can't go until next Tuesday. Even dentists have to take in emergencies.

Vegemite is not the weirdest foodstuff in that sentence.

It's no weirder than nutritional yeast, certainly.

What's so weird about tofu? It's a good idea to marinate it in kombu shiitake dashi before frying to give it some flavor, sure, but you could say that about mycoprotein too.

Well, back in the kitchen thread you mentioned smearing Vegemite on tofu and I was curious how well that worked. Thus the onion gravy, lotus root chips, and tofu, which I would call a vegan poutine were it not for the Quebeckers screaming wordlessly at me every time I type that.

If you just slice lotus root apart and bake the slices, they taste nutty. The usual marination in vinegar will leave them with a subtle sweet-and-sour flavor. They absorb flavors well, though, so you can make them taste like pretty much whatever you want.

Just don't fry them in oil. They're too wet; they spatter everywhere.

Man, my bacon harmony is on point. I'm down with the devil bacon, I'd just rather have non-devil bacon.

... also turkey bacon is fine, too. Practical standpoint it tends to have more play room than bacon bacon, even. Stuff tends to be cheaper and lighter on junk like salt, so it can be used as bacon inroads for poorer folks and those needing to avoid high sodium stuff or whatev'. Somewhat different sort of marginally healthier bacon, but it's still bacon, bird bacon or not.

Also yeah ak, probably want to go ahead and call up your/a dentist and tell them what's up rather than just ask for an appointment or somethin'. As folks are saying tooth doc'll often make some room for someone whose teeth done turned black.
