I have never encountered a alien species that were not immediately hostile. It might happen one day, but it will be too late. I will give no quarter for xenos, never more. I rather like your idea with the missile bombardment. I do not know if it will work, but perhaps you could set up a mass drive, and pummel them with stones, too.

See, this to me is a believable purge the xenos scenario.  If humans repeatedly tried to have peaceful first contact and every single alien you met immediately invaded, its no wonder they'd be xenophobic. (what is xenophobic called for literal aliens?  xeno-xenophobic?)

For the more light-hearted universe, where there are more friendly disposed aliens, of the attractive sort that are similar to mankind, save a few cosmetic differences. I know myself well enough that I am sure that I would be a particularly eager space explorer, if that were the case. My sort of space diplomacy; through torpedoes or torpedoes.

I'unno, interplanetary nuclear exchange sounds suspiciously like there would be a planet left on the other end. Might not be that much of a sure thing. Going to have to crack the mantle, shatter the planet, and launch the remains out of the system at a significant fraction of c.

Sadly, as in-depth as Aurora is I don't believe it's that in-depth. The best you can really do is so badly irradiate and pollute a planet that it's virtually uninhabitable.

Completely destroying a planet with nukes would be almost impossible.  It would be like leveling a mountain with nothing but bullets fired from assault rifles.
