I know that we've mostly dropped the statue subject, but...

I heard someone in my house tell me that they're replacing it with a statue of Lenin, but I cannot for the life of me found a source for this. Please, oh please, tell me that they got trolled and this isn't a thing.

Given China... That is HIIIIGHLY debatable.
1v1 me blad

Then again I'd probably put them in the exception zone.
Then again that also applies to Islamic Countries too... the existence of Pagan temples...
your arcane insinuations are too powerful for me to comprehend

Is it still the Robert E. Lee's statue, ass of which was made in China, that may be replaced by statue of Lenin? If yes, it makes very little sense.

(At least out of context, which I do not have)

After reading about the movement on wiki just now, I shall say this:

I think that only the people of the city, where a monument stands should have the right to vote whether it should be removed or not, but removing it is rarely a good idea.

Yes there are some stupid monuments, but they actively remind us of history. And not knowing your own history is bad.

I'm no expert, but I'd imagine this varies between manufacturers. If you don't want to pay a professional to do it for you, you could look at your car model's manuals (including third-party ones) or ask on a forum based specifically around your car's manufacturer.

Evidently in some states in America if you're the victim of statutory rape and it results in a pregnancy, the younger party can still be liable for child support payments. Also, you can be liable if you aren't aware the child's not yours (eg cheating spouse).

Nothing much for me to say about that beyond "What the fuck?"

OHHH goodness... The Parental Rights in America is borked!

In some states the woman can essentially give the child away (Essentially because... it is more that they can send the child to adoption)... Even if the Father wishes to be, well, the father.

And that isn't the ONLY thing.

... see, if you actually care about people being reminded of history? You'd want the statues like the one in durham gone, too. The damn things are attempts at historical revisionism, put in place back in the 20s-40s to take a dump on efforts by our minority/black population to obtain equal rights, end segregation, etc.

Frankly, if you wanted to properly display that bit of history to the people of the city, crumpling the ruddy thing into a pile of scrap and putting it back on the pedestal with the original inscription scratched into illegibility and a new one put in along the lines of, "In honor of the sacrifices our country's soldiers made during the civil war, and the efforts of those that followed to do the right thing where they failed." Would be the way to go. Getting rid of it/moving it to somewhere besides where it was original placed is pretty decent, too.

My personal feelings is more that I am not for or against the statues standing.

So much that I question the motivations behind it... and also think that mob justice isn't justice.

That and there is a LOOOOT of projection towards the statues.

Yeah, the statues themselves aren't the problem. The real problem is all of the underlying practical issues that are making people so angry that they want to take it out on a symbol of what they oppose.

*waggles hand* One of those underlying practical issues can be the statues, though? Where they are and stuff, at least. Folks generally have a higher anger limit before they start breaking things when they have some other (E: realistic, anyway, from their perspective if nothin' else) option besides breaking things to deal with 'em.

You're fairly on point that conceptually it's not the statue itself that's the problem. Just where it is, what it was put there for, reasons relocation or modification or whatev' isn't on the table, etc. Not many folks would think much of 'em if they were in a museum or off in some memorial park dedicated specifically to what they represent, or something along those lines.

Not certain of how it works where you are, but around here any auto parts store will read the computer for free and give you a general idea of what is wrong.

I am starting to see that trying to appeal to the "Progressive" crowd typically doesn't work and often backfires (Often by having the Progressive crowd pick some element and hate you for it).

But why is it attempted so often? Is it more successful than I think?

Well ok it isn't attempted THAT often...

Found a very small, very pointy tooth embedded in my bike tire.
The tire is successfully patched.
The tooth is sitting on my display shelf.

You have, in your own chaotic way, admirable views.  I'm pretty sure.
But I'm not sure that you're progressive, or regressive, or *anything* really.
You seem to be contrarian to a fault.  Excessively so.

And that's admirable in its own right.

...Except when you ignore what people are saying and post complete non-sequiturs.
Leaving out context so that people will respond.
I constantly want to do the same thing.  And I (usually) don't.  Because it's awful, meaningless, self-centered bs.

What animal is the tooth from? Presumably but hopefully not human?
