So who's more "use" to whom?
Depends if there's lions about.

Cold-blooded animals all right.
But as long as they know that killing you will result in losing their food and cuddling you is a parasitic way to gain warmth, isn't that basically good enough?

Also because of this whole 'grown ambiguity' around the definition of domesticated. realised the 'cutesy' phrase of 'a domesticated woman" means more literally 'someone bred through generations to be more useful (to men)' which is a little bit grim.

I think that refers more literally to the Latin domestic/domus roots (meaning house). That it is a woman of the house, e.g. a house wife. Similar to how domestic violence/domesticide means violence/murder within the household.

One of the saddest things I've ever learned is that while pet snakes can learn to coexist with their owners, they are incapable of developing affection.  They just think of their owner as a source of food/warmth.

...not that I found it surprising, it just struck me as sad.

Warmth and/or food is the basis of like 95% of all affection between pets and owners anyway, though :P

Also, since it just struck me when I wanted to write husband instead of owners up there  (The Swedish word for the keeper of a pet is the direct etymological equivalent of husband, husbonde, which means "master of the house"), English needs to get better words for pet owners. Seeing people use "daddy" or "mommy" regarding their pets creeps me the fuck out.

With a dedicated program we probably could put out the sun, but it's such a pointless goal with such harsh requirements that it may as well be impossible.
Considering the sunburn I've acquired, is there a kickstarter for this?

So for clarity's sake we should go with "domicilic violence"?

Also
I think that's a cultural thing, because it grosses me out too. I just say "owner"
Then again, is a maternal/paternal or husband/wife relationship more implied by pet ownership?

Well, the word for husband (married man) isn't the same as the word for master in Swedish. The male part of a marriage is just called "man" (literally like in "man and wife") or maybe "make" (but "make" is more like couple-part, or maybe match/"one who fits together with the other).

I did remember the word master is used for it in English while writing this post. That's pretty much better than "parent".

I never realised Bruce Willis was a brilliant harmonica player (and singer!) until just now. Whoa.

Edit: Now I'm going through the Blondie songs that somehow wound up on my Ipod, looking to delete some to make room for new music, but they're pretty much all total bangers. Only a couple so far are candidates for deletion. Maybe I should move onto the punk section, but that's gonna take hours to prune...

Learned that my stepdad's cousin was charged with multiple homicides the other day(as in, he was charged the other day).

I never realised Bruce Willis was a brilliant harmonica player (and singer!) until just now. Whoa.

He was a nightclub singer before getting picked for Die Hard.

so because its been on my list of things to do since i was like 12, and it was recently talked about i started reading starship troopers.

now, i like cheesy scifi movies, and starship troopers is a cute enough campy string cheese pack, but the book is actually _good_.  i guess people have a right to be mad about the whole affair

Assuming proper plant safety and disposal are performed, nuclear power emits less radiation into the environment than does coal fired power plants.

(The problem is that money talks, and humans are stupid fucking greedy, and dont want to pay for EITHER of those two. In pretty much all of the recorded nuclear accidents, those have been the prominent features. Chernobyl? Trying to use the reactor as a fast breeder, when it was never designed for it. 3-Mile island? Plant operators refused to close for downtime after discovering cracks in the containment vessel. Fukushima? AGAIN-- not only refused to shut down for maintenance, but DENIED that there were problems, despite it being VERY VERY well documented.)

The problem with nuclear power is not the technology-- the problem is trusting money driven interests to operate them properly.
