Also... Man, this is weird.  I just had a pretty cool 2-hour conversation about someone else's tabletop game, and bear suits, and Mass Effect 2...
And while I really enjoyed it, I also really wanted to talk about my Shadowrun experience   Argh!

It's weird because it's such a minor thing, and it was actually a fun conversation.  They had to sleep though (nonstandard work schedule).  I'm glad they're doing well.
Also I can just describe it in the DND thread...  Well, except for some parts heh.
...  I think I'm ill or something, my thoughts just feel really strange.  Like I'm drunk, except I haven't even started, and kinda hyper...

It's probably the sudden warm weather.  It honestly does weird things to me, makes me antsy.  S'literally why I chose to live in the mountains.
This is probably a good time to dig up one of my code projects, actually.

My problem with the linked post was that the guy was using his physics degree to paint himself as an authority, when he wasn't talking about physics.  If it had been an anonymous post that didn't mention his degree or the scientists he knows (which you'll note, he didn't specify their degrees either), then maybe I'd have been more receptive.

Anyone who has spent time around the worse sorts of academics will recognize this pattern of behavior. It's pretty much universal for shitty academics to act as if their degrees make them authorities in other fields, and folks in the hard sciences tend to do it more than most.

To make a more common comparison, it's like an architect insisting that paramedics are doing everything wrong, or a roofer trying to tell electricians how to wire up a house. Appeal to authority with a hefty helping of self-aggrandizing arrogance. It's only perpetuated in this context because a third of the audience stands to profit from sidelining climate science and another third doesn't know the difference between a climate scientist and a jackass with an associate's degree in underwater basket weaving.

Got on to play some Warframe and in the start of the first mission my computer tower started rattling like it was about to fall apart. Took me almost two minutes to notice that I'd left the 360 controller for NieR: Automata plugged in and free to vibrate on top of the case.

Huh.  I played that game a little, simply because it was a featured glitchplay on http://it-he.org/, but I didn't get far because the controls were screwy.  That was years ago, should I give it another chance maybe?

Edit:  To clarify, I didn't read the glitchplay, because the game seemed intriguing.  I know I'll never finish the ancient Ultimas so they're different.

Really late on this one but I don't think I can blame Sauron (I assume that's Sauron) for that one.  As I too would want to use that kind of tech to turn people into dinosaurs.

Anyway, I patched my ROM of Fire Emblem 6, but the translation is... really weird.

A text box for the tutorial goes like this:

Right now V (V = button prompt for A, text ends there)
Item and end commands show, you can select Items V
To issue with V
The items command allows you V
To equip and use items. V

Huh. You using the newer translation/localization thing, or the pre-2013 patch? If it's the latter, grammatical oddities were specifically one of the things the former was intended to address. If it's the former it... could have something to do with the coding et al. Sometimes the base game forces weird formatting (due to differences in information density between english the most languages games get translated from), which can be a sizeable pain to change and occasionally just get worked around instead. Gives bits like you described at times, heh.

I used a patch that had a readme claiming it was last updated in 2004.

I'll try to look for a more recent patch.

Though, if "to equip and use items" warrants its own key press, Japanese is just gonna look even more scary as a language to learn.

EDIT: Also, Roy's combat sprite gives me the impression that he's one of those cartoon babies with the huge buckteeth sticking out of their mouths. That's always how I see it, even though it's definitely not true to Fire Emblem art style...
