Ohhh yeah I forgot about how messed up the US educational system is right now due to standardized tests.

Mind, there's not actually even much testing of history on the state/federal level. Mostly just writing, reading comprehension, maths, and table/chart reading comprehension (i.e. science). Rarely/never history, certainly not geography.

When I went through school, history class was basically this:

Grade 1: Pilgrim-related crafts for Thanksgiving
Grade 2: Basic overview of the branches of government
Grade 3: Mayflower through American Revolution, very basic version
Grade 4: Worship of the North American Indian, and how they are superior to Europeans in every way
Grade 5: Mayflower through American Revolution, basic version
Grade 6: Mayflower through Civil War, very basic version
Grade 7: What is a government
Grade 8: What sort of government do we have (first semester), Why guns are pure distilled evil (second semester)
Grade 9: Ancient Egypt
Grade 10: Ancient Egypt
Grade 11: American Civil War
Grade 12: None. Replaced with introductory Psychology and Sociology

Where the hell did you go to school that you got this? I'm sure you are aware there are parts of the US where this is treated as metaphorical and/or literal heresy.

You see, this is a problem for me. I was just about to get up and defend American education, but then you remind me that I was homeschooled and am about as qualified to talk about the problems with public educations as a Kobe slaughter cow is qualified to complain about cruelty in the slaughter industry.

I can't even fucking remember what we did for history class most of my life. I remember making the little paper replicas of early colony towns for thanksgiving in first grade and that was one thing I was better at than everyone else so I was super proud of it.


Oh, and the worst politically oriented teacher experience I've had was actually my psych 101 class in college. The professor was actually a 60-something liberal radio talk show host who would routinely stop following the material to rant about how stupid and ignorant all republicans are and how he's always right. I literally just read the book during class and ignored him most of the time. And passed with a C because I was too lazy to do the big essay assignment.

It wasn't part of the official curriculum, but it was the main thing the teacher taught. Literally all I remember of the class is being shown one awful propaganda video after another, most of which were barely coherent.
