Short of vagueries like "left leaning" or "liberal", not sure what I would actually call the democratic party. They aren't pro-labour or unions. They're sort of environmentalists but in a halfassed "well the opposition is against it" kind way. They aren't socialistic (yet, hehehe), they're definitely democratic capitalists but so is everyone else. The closest label I can think of is "progressive", but they do little enough to actually earn that label.
No wait, I know what I'd call them. "Moderate." They're a moderate party that picked up some very disappointed leftists along the way.
I dunno given the many regressive "Progressives" out there right now. (And I don't say that lightly... People who advocate segregation, banning homosexuality, and removal of free speech under the banner of being progressive...)
You could say they are definitely earning that "progressive" title.
Kind of a shame how Progressive is sort of becoming a buzz word that means anything butt lately...
Once again I REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED to stay off of Twitter/Tumblr... They do not represent everyday people.. Neither do police procedurals and pop-culture commentators... >_< STOP IT BRAIN!
That's the thing, though. People like to say "oh, nobody's
really like that, it's all just internet trolls" to try and excuse the hateful shit folks spew. Ain't the truth, though. SJW tumblrs, /pol/, shitty subreddits-the people voicing opinions in such places are all real, and many of them are sincere on some level about what they're saying. The internet is for trolling, but there are a whole lot of people who think that the jokers are being serious. A solid chunk of the Pepe wing of the campaign were in it solely for memes and fucking with people, but the alt-left and alt-right both thought that they were serious; the latter saw it as a show of popular support, the former as evidence of the white cis patriarchy at work. And then Trump enters office with a 40% approval rating, the blackshirt rape squads never materialized, and neither has realized that they got got.
Those are ordinary people saying those things. The denials ring hollow every time one of them has enough guts to act on their hate in meatspace and the only excuse their cohort can offer is a No True Scotsman claim. What people say on the internet shouldn't be taken seriously by observers, but that doesn't mean that the people saying it aren't being serious. There's just no way to tell, and there's not much point respecting them regardless of whether they're trying to get a rise or are genuinely espousing terrible ideas (unless you can tell, then you have the opportunity to get in on the joke and piss off ideologues even more).
It's as if half of all Rome fiddled through the fire while the other half added fuel.
