My mother was explaining to me today that she had found a town for sale, like, a literal fricking town, buildings and all, and that if everyone in the extended family pitched in, we could buy a town for us to live in.

She said it wouldn't work because we'd immediately start inbreeding.

I can say that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is fantastic and contains very little in terms of religious parallel.

I've read that(got a copy I found abandoned on the sidewalk one day). There's a few moments where it's obvious, particularly the end when {they reach Azlan's home, and he first appears before them as a slaughtered lamb before turning into a lion}. Was still a pretty good book though.

If they're selling it there's probably a reason why nobody wants to live in it. Like mole people or mass graves or an epidemic of nightmares or a still-burning coal deposit right beneath it or most unlikely of all a several dozen million dollar debt.

Where'd she find it though? Maybe somebody legitimately put up an out-of-the-way town for sale and hoped since nobody lived there anymore that no one would notice.

*shrug* here there *are* towns for sale. There was a lot of migration from the fields to the cities, and in many places the population ended up dying up.

That and a couple of plagues in the 19th century. And something like, 4 civil wars in the last 200 years. So yeah, some do have a bad past.

I think the main point is that in some cases you can only reform older houses to a certain degree because "culture" or some shit like that, and other moronic clauses. You have to read the fine print carefully

Ye about the historical buildings having some bullshit rules, one family in my area was trying to paint their house and was fined b/c it was the wrong color or somesuch horseshit and it turns out they had no idea they owned a historical home or whatever, apparently the guy who sold it left put that little detail (how, i don't know, it should've been on loke four documents at least)

I don't know about Spain, but I quite like the rules against it here in the USA. There are perfectly up to code Federalist style houses and shops downtown in my home town (including what is, to my knowledge, the oldest theatres in the state,) and if certain property developers had their way they'd have all been torn down and replaced with these hideously ugly steel and glass blockhouse things a local architect designs. As it is there's only one, where a gas leak gutted a building on one of the main cross-streets intersecting Main.

Indeed. Sometimes, I get the impression that all contemporary architect signs a hidden "must design in a manner deliberately ugly, boring, dated and guaranteed to go stained and mouldy within ten years" clause in a contract drawn up by the devil.

It is impractical at times, but the buildings that have survived their fair share of centuries needs the protection.

I do believe my dismissive comment of martyrdom took on a different sort of air, now. _{Well, that is no doubt how he will see things, I'm sure.}

It is not too surprising, though. That thread could not be counted on surviving the election and inauguration unlocked, be it temporary or for good. Not this season, at least. It stayed kicking for an awful long time, all things considered.

Yeah, he's the one who made the all caps sarcasm post which I simply ignored. That and apparently being in more trouble than I thought he had been in.

His reasoning for it seemed to be that others don't respect his politics, so he shouldn't respect their's.
