I'm guessing originally the roads were laid as a cross shaped pattern then it sort of got expanded upon from there as the cemetery grew. It has the look of a road system that was cobbled together bit by bit.

I claim to have a not-weak stomach, but banana slug sexual reproduction in vivo and in front of a camera is slightly unsettling in a way...  :(
