I'm doubtful! If I were a vampire and you showed me pictures of madonna, I'd be like "Yeah, I'd bite that."

Also generic undead like zombies and skeletons aren't intelligent at all, iirc.

Let's explore this. What makes undead intelligent? Brain tissue? State of decay?
Are zombies or skeletons smarter? Why a lich?

If a vampire is commanded by their progenitor, and the "lesser undead" are commanded by a necromancer, is a lich commanded by its phylactery?
Is the glorious "life beyond death" a tormented existence trapped within a pennant, making and commanding meat puppets in a desperate attempt to stave off the claustrophobic insanity?

Vampires are cursed with Unlife anyhow. While they are undead, they are more accurately a mockery of life.

Lich's (which DO NOT have to be undead... Even in DND this is true. Both Lesser and Greater Lichs are living) are someone seeking immortality through undeath.

Zombies and Skeletons are simply animated corpses. If they are animated by a spirit then it is usually a flawed vessel (it is why Zombies usually are slow, clumsy, and barely coherent).

Though there are intelligent Zombies and Skeletons as well.

Their intelligence is based on their creation anyhow.

In the case of the Lich, it's more that the phylactery becomes the brain equivalent that has its own unlife support system.

So it's only as claustrophobic as being an oval made of fat trapped inside a bone shell while operating a meat puppet. Presumably.

At the very least in 3.X, Liches are classified as Undead, including the Positive Energy Eberon ones.

It is because they are a specific kind of Lich.

Lesser Lichs don't have a Phylactery and thus are quite mortal when it comes to violent death (they are also subject to disease, poisons, and what have you).

Greater Lichs are specifically alive and aren't influenced towards darkness.

Yet Skeletons are mimics of their once living selves aping behavior that they did in life, so it can very well SEEM like skeletons are intelligent because they will flank and juke and even retreat if necessary... Yet it is all without any real ability to discern the situation beyond in arbitrary ways.

If left to their own devices a skeleton will eventually perform actions endlessly like dance in a ballroom, A skeletal cow will chew on grass, or even seem to make round.
