I got a message from work that, just now, on a freeway I was driving on not even half an hour ago, there was a wreck involving a big rig. Multiple fatalities.

I think I'm done driving for the day. That's too close a call for comfort.

Hey there. And btw you can make perfectly good instant noodles by just breaking up the block then pouring boiling water from the kettle over it, and leaving it to sit. Then either eat that, or stir-fry it with veggies etc. Way easier and tastier than boiling the crap out of the noodles in a pot.

Reelya speaks truth here. When I had the ramen dilemma I picked up a 450ml pyrex glass bowl with a sealing lid, just wide enough to hold a whole noodle cake. Dump that and the seasoning (plus whatever little stuff you add) in, pour boiling water from the kettle over it, leave the lid on for however long you want to cook it for. Works a treat and you can eat straight out of it afterwards. Just needs a hotpad or something if you want to move it (don't do that, pour where you're gonna eat, spilled ramen broth sucks Q.Q).

Gee willikers, I never intended to start a whole, heated discussion of domestic violence.
I was just 'avin' a laugh at my bogan housemates. Glad things seem to have calmed down now, I wouldn't want to be responsible for such a touchy subject blowing up and getting people in trouble.


Ramen: personally, I prefer noodles cooked in a pot. The 'cover with boiling water' never seems to cook them well enough in my experience... maybe I just need to get the water hotter first, I dunno. Anyway I would love to continue discussing the ins-and-outs of instant noodle preparation but I have to go to work. Now I want noodles. Might stock up on 'em later.

I am aware 2nd place are Fishermen... (and first place loggers)... But how the heck does that happen?

I dunno about pilots, but I have vivid memories of what happens when an airplane engineer stands in front of an airplane's engine.

Unless you're referring to the people who design them, in which case I dunno.

Flying is very safe...for the passengers.

Obviously I don't have evidence, but I bet most of those fatalities involve single-seater planes and the aforementioned engineers and mechanics. Aside from well-publicized accidents, very few commercial flights involve any fatalities at all, compared to daily fatalities on the road.

But you asked why people call flying the safest way to travel. I just explained why. It has everything to do with successful commercial passenger flights and nothing at all to do with airshow accidents or drunk crop dusters.

When you generalize "Pilot" it also makes it include more dangerous but still civilian jobs, general passenger flight in large jets is generally pretty safe for everyone involved.

You really don't need to even ask if you think about flight engineers. The risk of working on a machine increases exponentially with the size and power running through it. Plenty of people (in a relative sense) accidentally mangle themselves working on cars or even lawnmowers already.
