There's... a lot more to bias than hate. Also a lot of people that do exhibit bias, but don't do it intentionally and/or general want the best for folks, in whatever way they think that is. Misguided, maybe a bit lacking in self-awareness or somewhat insensitive, buncha' other stuff. I've found it to be pretty common for the older generations, really. Asshole isn't exactly the word I'd use for 'em.

But yeah, I'm 30.  Dang kids.  Some good ideas, some really bad ideas.
And I'm really young compared to a lot of other people here...  Certainly haven't started a family, though mostly because I'm barely interested.

I probably shouldn't worry about age so much.  Being around my parents just makes me feel inadequate for being gay/disinterested, is all.

Just got back from visiting mom, which was an exhausting few days of health-food, hiking, money problems, and uncomfortably unconditional love.
Now Sunday I attend my dad's family reunion, basically the opposite.  A bunch of venomously polite southern gentry.  All smiles and disdain.  No anger, anger means you've lost.  So much judgement in an innocent question, or a meaningful pause.

I actually really prefer my dad's family :/  I want to live up to my potential, and they sadistically encourage that.  Plus they accepted my lesbian cousin's wife.  They're judgemental about things that, well, matter.
