The furry fandom is probably Disney's doing, with Robin Hood, TaleSpin and more recently Zootopia being particularly notable examples. I mean really, just look at how long time it didn't take before people started making gemsonas after Steven Universe happened, the three examples i mentioned probably had a very similar effect to newcomers. :v

I think stories of antromorphised animals is a thing quite a lot older than Disney - just think of all the fables to begin with.

Shook is kinda right, though. Furry fandom as we know it only became a thing after a few key super talented artists started doing anthropomorphic characters and art. Like goddamn Doug Winger, an engineer who actualy worked for NASA once, and worked in pretty much any important toy company after that. Guy basically spawned the furry fandom as we know it with his hobby art, which he sold to people for a fair amount of monies.

Its specially hilarious when you consider the fact that the guy was a really talented engineer who worked in the design of a certain part of the space shuttle's wingtail.
The guy who drew furries with huge gonads and mamaries for fun is partly responsible for getting some crews into space.

Not too sure about that. Regular furry porn tends to hold some sort of standard it rarely dips below.
What you need to look for is furry fetish porn. Especially underrepresented or fringe genres where not many talented people draw it forcing some not quite good artists (who may or may not be afflicted with some mental issue) into taking things in their own hands (paws?).
