German folklore has them as invisible shapeshifters, though they're usually described as looking like ugly small children when they choose to be visible.

1st Edition Dungeons & Dragons described them as small dog-faced furry humanoids, much like Dwarf Fortress does. Only by D&D 3.5 did they become reptilian.

Has anyone heard of those blenders that are supposed to be able to grind up just about anything you can stick into them? They are quite powerful and well built and their major selling point is how they can power through anything.

My sister came home from work yesterday and promptly told me that she sometimes had trouble believing how stupid people can be.

"Who is being stupid now?" I ask.
"Sam's mother." she replies. (Sam is her coworker)
"Oh, how is she being stupid?"
"Well, you see, they bought one of those blenders than are supposed to be able to grind anything. Sam was telling me that she can't see why anyone would ever want one, they are terrible, etc, ect."
"I thought they were really good?" I ask.
"Oh, they are, but Sam's mom stuck her hand in it and cut one of her fingers up really good. Now they think they are terrible, dangerous, and should not be used. They threw it out."
"What did they have before, one with rubber blades?" I ask, somewhat incredulously, "Did you tell her you would be happy to take it?"
"Yes, but she informed me I didn't know what I was talking about, they are terrible and nobody could ever want one..."
"So, tell me, why do you associate with these people again?"
"Sadly, you can't pick your coworkers, or I would trade this one in"

The warning labels aren't supposed to prevent dumbasses from being dumbasses, because that's impossible and they probably didn't read them anyway - they're to prevent dumbasses from being dumbasses, and winning, in the court room afterwards.
