Though I've yet to see this happen to Optimus Prime... who in spite having a lot of movies, television shows, and comics... I've yet to see him turn evil. I mean he was parody level of goody goody in the comics... but that was not only bad writing but that was technically the original depiction.

Well you haven't got up to this episode then, obviously:
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Dark_Awakening_(episode)
Optimus did indeed get a go at being an evil version.
That episode is so similar to the "it was only a dream" method of temporary edginess.

Man I am getting good at predicting destruction.

Was reading a wiki about this setting and apperantly there was this conglomerate of vast intelligence, power, and resources dedicated for the betterment of the universe (legitimately). I immediately said before reading on "Ok, it is doomed!"...

And yep... It was destroyed. In fact, it was destroyed FAST!

It seems to be a pattern that when fiction builds something up as good, and it isn't the main character, it might as well have a "Kill me please" sign on it.
Well, if these vast forces for good did just solve all the problems, with their huge depths of intelligence, power, and resources, there wouldn't be much plot...

Not it isn't, because that would imply that he was ok in the episodes preceding and following this one. Which was not the case. The evil Optimus is basically his only appearance in the entirety of season 3, and the episode ends on a tragic twist.

Then those supposed vast and powerful forces of good were just used as a throwaway  plot point to show how much more powerful were the vast and powerful forces of evil.
"See how strong those evil things we made are? The plot is serious!"
It's totally not like the same thing happened happened in star trek with Worf.
Not at all!

They did the PPG. But the fanbase didn't like it.
I wonder why?!

Certainly, but the underdog heroes against the great and terrible forces of evil is typically more likely to be interesting than the heroes overpowering the villains by far.

Wouldn't it be more interesting if the odds were more or less matched and the heroes (along with their villain counterparts) look for a way to tip the scales?
The "we are the underdogs" trope seems to be wearing thin imho.
It usually ends up like yahtzee said in his review of sacred 3.

Instant plot.

But what about the "underdog villains against the great and terrible forces of goodness"? And, in a twist, have the underdog lose?

I mean just look at Boros vs Saitama fight, it's basically that. And people like it very much!

That's kinda blunted by Boros thinking he was Frieza fighting against SS1 Goku.

I just realized...

Alot Idyllic characters go through a phrase where some writer "Fixes" them by either turning them into a self-parody, destroys their purity, or tries to make them "Relatable"

Superman, Nancy Drew, Captain America (AMERICA IS DEAD!), Ironman (Dictator), Godzilla (Depowered), Batman... yeah his get unpleasant.

Though I've yet to see this happen to Optimus Prime... who in spite having a lot of movies, television shows, and comics... I've yet to see him turn evil. I mean he was parody level of goody goody in the comics... but that was not only bad writing but that was technically the original depiction.

I'm going to recommend watching Babylon 5, which basically doesn't do this. Watch the prequel movie In The Beginning too (Watching it first it works better if you've already been spoilered at all, and it's also a very strong intro, whereas the first season feels pretty slow to get going), which covers the Earth-Minbari War, which happened before the series proper.

How about this plot?

A genius billionaire playboy from a respected family uses his riches to train his body to its limit and get the best equipment money can and can't buy. He then puts on a mask and goes out at night to fight a variety of lunatics with tragic pasts who've survived by sheer tenacity and hard work. After beating them up, he carts them off to an asylum known for its inhumane treatment and resumes his decadent life in his civilian identity.

Oh wait, that's {Batman}.

It wasn't a "Solve all the plot problems" they were far removed from the actual action in the series. It is just that as a bastion of good, they were outright gonna die.

HECK DC has a whole planet full of super powered people dedicated to the good of the universe... and that planet lasted a LONG time but to my knowledge it has been destroyed twice so far! (I think it exists again... because it is DC and reboots are given out like candy)
