What does BG2 have to do with African culture?
It has more to do with another bit of controversy. Not the same thing but rather related.

On a side note I am reading the description of the "Reward" structures in the game Afterlife (Reward Structures are basically rewards for people in the afterlife).
And they are all, well except contentment, ironic rewards for the 6 virtues (Contentment, Charity, Chastity, Humility, Peacefulness, Temperence and Diligence)
-Charity: These always involve either earning some endless rewards or wealth, or having an incredibly easy consumer experience (One is a parking lot where you can always find a space)
-Humility: Always involve being fawned over and praised for being so humble. Leading to one building being literally playing god!
-Chastity: Hooking up, one even includes a building that outright states that once your bored of one partner, it sets you up with another.
-Peaceful: Put into eternal strife (basically never allowed peace) one of which is a building that serves no purpose but to create stupid laws for peaceful souls to protest.
Contentment is the odd one out, but usually it involves them being given some sort of magically blessed gift that they share with others involving music and dance.
Diligence is... weird. Not ironic but then again you can't really make it ironic (As both "freedom from diligence" and "Rewarded with more diligence" is fitting). One reward building turns you into a cat that you can decide how you life your life as but it basically repays Diligence (Or loyalty) with either pampering or freedom.
