I was playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution today. Then I read some in-game text that talked about an "oil crash of 2015" and I was like .

I have a hard time believing vagueness is the real issue with the name when "strategy" is an accepted game genre that nobody has any problems with. I think any name Riot came up with would get pretty similar resistance.

Any particular reason why or just general strategic pessimism?
What I've seen of it looks pretty good.

I kind of want to make a game/film/media review journal called Strategic Pessimists, which only report on the flaws of the media in question. Y'know, for people who are broke and need an excuse not to buy a really good game.

More their failed marketing cashgrab scheme. I know that marketers basically dictate to artists and developers in most companies, but it suggests they don't have their priorities straight.

There's also just kind of a larger story issue with Old Ex and New Ex. I think they're both pretty good, but they honestly have almost nothing to do with each other and it shows. It's hard to buy that the fall of a transhumanist golden age would lead to Deus Ex. I can buy that it could fall, but not to lead to a world with a grand total of three or four surviving mech-augs and that looks like gritty 90's. Even a failed transhumanist age would result in a permanently altered world, it's like saying a failure of industrialism would lead back to a society that looked like the agrarian age. Inevitable due to the gap in fiction development between the two games? Sure. I just think it would have fared better as a spiritual successor rather than a storyline one.

I think it was even handwaved with "terrorists blew them up".

"Does not make food for you when you forget to eat"
"Does not fix the cupholder in your computer that won't open anymore"
"Does not remind you to GO TO BED instead of staying up all night playing it"
