Cage trap question
« on: October 20, 2010, 12:54:43 pm »

Hey eveybody.

Im using cage traps for the first time. I dont know why i waited so long, but i have a nice little setup.
However, how do i pit hostile creatures!? when ever i try they escape, and create a billion job cancelation messages. i got a whole page worth of goblins i wanted to get rid of... so time is of the essence!

Place the cage immediately adjacent to the pit and the creatures will be a lot less likely to get away. Additionally, if you're not particularly attached to the cages themselves, you can just atomsmash them or drop them into the magma sea.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Where does the pit lead to?

If it's an accessible/safe area you could move the cages in there and attach them to levers.

You can train your military dwarfs this way by disarming the goblins and then setting them loose in a (locked) room with a squad stationed there.

It's not the stockpile that's the issue, it's where you build the cage - you should build the cage first, right next to the pit. What happens if you don't is that they go to get the guy to be pitted from the stockpile, let him out of the cage so they can take him to the pit, and then... hey, wait, where are you going!?

Putting the stockpile next to the pit is an option, but I prefer the idea of the long march while some dwarf slowly drags the cage up the steps - steps! - to the top of the Tower of Doom. Buahahaha.

Making an arena where you pit grizzly bears and FB's against unarmed goblins is always fun >:)
