Alunite.

Especially when there is more alunite than obsidian in the obsidian layer I embarked on. (I prefer to dig and smooth over building walls below ground- eventually I will turn my legendary engraver loose on the fully smoothed fortress)

I don't really have a least favorite building material as I can use whatever I want.

For huge constructions like megaprojects, I'm going to stay away from glass because I tried a green glass pyramid once and the micromanagement involved in mass pruduction was HORRIBLE! AAAAAAUUGGGGGGGGGGHHGGAAAGGAAAA!!!! YAAAAA!! I'm fine with using them in workshops and smaller projects, but I'm not going to do an all glass megaproject again. The fact that it was a HUGE pyramid may have contributed to it.

Until the proccess can be automated better (I kept having to monitor the rate it was being manufactured and constantly had to throttle down or up the production on various factors.) and more efficient, I'm holding off on doing all glass megaprojects like that,

I do use it to build the carpenters shop and masons shop and get out a few neccessities, but that's the only time I actually use it as a building material since I'll have built new ones inside before the first year is out.

Schist, siltstone, and every other brown rock.

I very rarely use metal of any kind. I'm too busy making crap to export with it.

I am not fond of jet.

My favorite stone types are granite and orthoclase.

Urist Chucknorris! I take offense at your pro-orthoclase stance.

I actually prefer gold for when I need yellow things. Orthoclase is nice for stuff like mechanisms and nobles' furniture. It's good to have lots of magma-safe rock.

Forgot to mention alunite.  It bugs me that its so white ingame and realistically its more of a yellow/orange, right?  Anyway yeah there's tons of it and sometimes white looks gaudy to me  so I usually earmark my alunite for the billions of billions of mechanisms my forts have been eating up lately.

Pitchblende is annoyingly purple.  Though it makes good furniture for nobles, since they're also annoyingly purple.  And hey, purple is traditionally the color of royalty.  The fact that it's radioactive also makes it appropriate for nobles, even if there's no syndrome for that just yet.

Pudding stone

First, it's brown. Brown is boring and dull. Why would I build my fort out of brown stone when I have much more appealing stone just beneath it.

Second, the name. Imagine if you built a grand castle out of puddingstone. It would be a joke. You can't make something sound intimidating or impressive when the word pudding is involved. I can't imagine kobold thieves sitting around a camp fire, telling legendary tales about the wondrous treasures held behind the impenetrable puddingstone walls. It would sound like a fortress from candy land.
