Problem is, at some point their dicking about is bound to hit education

Yeah, you're a bit late on that one. See the whole Texas textbook mess.

This, right here, is the entire reason we have not yet reached the moon.

I was going to say something, but I choose to believe he's speaking metaphorically.  I choose really goddamn hard.

I choose to think he is speaking ironically.

And it actually works.

Or maybe he meant the fact that we went there 40 years ago and somehow it's harder now than it was then.

Well, there isn't any point in going to the moon unless it's a colonisation effort. The first landing was pretty much a way to one-up the Soviets, and after they took samples and played golf there isn't much else that can't be done in regular orbit. I can see China or India or some other emerging power landing there, but only to plant their flag and show everyone else that they're to be taken seriously.

Well, there isn't any point in going to the moon unless it's to build the best skatepark ever.

Fixed.

To return to the original topic, these people live in a world of their own making, the same world the chain e-mails come from about Barack Obama's Kenyan Commie Fascist Atheist Muslim heritage. And they vote.

Fortunately, the crazy seems to be dying off.

Only because it's not yet election time. Give it a year, and you won't be able to go a moment without hearing that the stimulus plan caused the recession, the healthcare murdered thousands of foetuses, the terrorists are going to launch nuclear missiles from Iraq, he personally sabotaged the Gulf oil rig, has been driving a truck full of Mexicans around looking for jobs to steal, is working with China, Russia, Cuba, N Korea, Iran, and Kenya to destroy Freedom, and he won the first election by using Wish, the scroll of which he found in a sunken temple off the coast of Angola, obtained by bargaining with a dark and eldritch force that dwelt within.

Just wait and see.

As for the unofficial Republican chant, well, that's too crazy to even type withoderka dur.

Stupid people who talk well make it into positions of power and fuck shit up, and then there's nothing we can do to remove them except hope that they don't get elected again.

Problem is, at some point their dicking about is bound to hit education, and when it does it has the dual effect of putting more stupid people out there to get sucked into powerful positions and voting for the same woman who thinks that the constitution doesn't want church and state separated. If we don't turn this around, America will be rendered vulnerable to both inner and outer pressures and likely crumble into, if we're lucky, a bunch of squabbling city states.

'Tis not a good era for the human mind.
I'm speaking as an outsider here, but didn't the rise of the idiotocracy begin in earnest in the late seventies ? And later, by the time that Duybia got elected, the general message was, 'Forget the intellecuals and boring stuff. Here is an amusing buffoon to make you feel better about your own lack of awareness and knowledge. Laugh at him and with him as he makes one big gaffe after another. '

America has got some very tough times ahead. At some point in the next 20 - 30 years, Americans are all going to have to accept that their country will be neither the richest nor the most powerful nation on Earth. The inevitable consequence of that will be that America will stop becoming the most influencial nation around as well. Who knows what affect this will have on the mindset of the 'average' citizen.

To be fair, this isn't entirely unique to the US.

Uh, yes indeed. Um. uh.. What can we say about Boris., , Um.. shit. ,,

How on earth did he get power, apart from going to the same very priviledged Oxford college house as our Prime minister ? Like George Bush, he is very likable and endearing which must be why people voted for him. It's actually kind of worrying that he has any power at all. I would say that he does not seem to have sinister people behind him pulling the strings. He does actually believe in the nonsense that he comes out with.

I'm now obliged to google for the utterly charming rubbish that he uttered at the end of the China Olympic games. (He represents the next host city.) And you really should check out his appearances on the satire quiz Have I got News for You ? (HIGNFY - Youtube)

And on an entirely unrelated note, I would just like to take this opportunity on behalf of the ENTIRE British nation to apologise for the rise of Piers Morgan in your country. He is universally despised and disparaged over here now. Do the world a favour and send him to the Mexican border or somewhere equally dangerous. Nasty little man.

Well, to be fair, Christine O'Donnel would be the person to have experience with such arcane matters, wouldn't she.

At least nothing to do with this candidate is as ludicrous as the Rich Iott Nazi controversy.

For those who don't know, the GOP candidate running in the 9th congressional district is a avid war reenactor, who has done reenactments of most of America's major wars. In some WWII reenactments, he played the German side, so photographs of him exist in Nazi uniform. A tabloid got ahold of one of those pictures and published it, causing a huge backlash against him.
