Mine is very very small. Maybe 300 books in total, includeing copies of the same book. The one in Middletown is freaking huge and I have found many good books there, but as I've said. Huge latefees at this point, not worth it.

Anyway, if we ever get to the point where Vetenari dies, who do you guys think will succeed him?

I have no idea.  I honestly just can't see him dying.  He's just too badass.

Winnipeg's Library is fucking awesome. Honestly, I can find  almost anything there, I even have there online database bookmarked.

When he does die, though, I can't imagine Sam Vimes to succeed him. What I see happening is Carrot succeeding Vimes, and Lipwig doing the same with Vetenari. Carrot would never agree to being the leader of Ankh-Morpork. Anyway, if Vetenari was trying to make Carrot his successor, the attempt failed. Carrot would've been the perfect leader of Ankh-Morpork, but he doesn't see himself as that and it would lead to the return to kingship. It would explain all the attention Moist has been getting, at least.
Actually, scratch that, he is probably grooming several successors. Maybe the Lord Vetenari Ward would play a part? Vetenari would never die, always being continued by a freak at the ward. Maybe he'll, as well, make Young Sam a possible candidate?

Well, I meant that it would never happen cannon, I mean the man has Alzheimer's, he can't write too many more books, so there would have to be a timeskip for him to die of old age.  And he would never die from any other cause.  Not that I can see.  But now I see you were speculating.  Moist seems the only possible successor we've been introduced to yet.  Everyone who would do okay wouldn't accept.
I dunno, he seems to prepare for everything, but he's irreplaceable as a leader.  There's just no one else like him.  That we know of, anyway.

I just spent money for a book, but on my next paycheck I may buy some Diskworld books.

Do you recommend any specific books to get started? I'd hate to start from the very beginning to understand every bit of the newer ones.
Small Gods is a standalone. Barring that, the Guards, Guards! series is amazing one you get into it, and some of the later Rincewind novels are rather funny. I haven't read the witches series, yet. I should post the guide to reading it.
The witches ones are quite good.  Granny is so full of badass she even comes from the town of Bad Ass.  And Nanny Ogg is basically a prune made of innuendo.

I always really liked the standalone wizard ones, though.  Dem wizards.  Just hilarious.

Rincewind novels: Have all of them. My favourite wizzard.
Watch novels: Have all, except one. Need to get it somewhere soon.
Death novels: Only read a few of them, have to get the rest.
Science novels: Interesting mix of real world science and fantasy. However I only posess one of the series.

The witches series always seemed the least interesting one to me. Only read 1-2 books there.

However I'd reccommending any series to anyone who likes fatasy and humour.

I've read almost all of the Rincewind, all but one of the watch novels, and I am now getting into the Moist Von Lipw(v?)ig stories. I should really read the Witches series. Small Gods and Men at Arms will always be my two favorites just because they were my first two that I read.

Oddly enough, I'm with you on this one.  Not so into Rincewind or the wizards, either.  I really got into the series through the Watch novels; guess that just says I like detective novels more than humor in and of itself.

Also, I hated Maskerade like burning.

I've read quite a few discworld novels, though there are quite a lot of them so I've probably read less than half, and it's one of my favourite book series. I agree with people finding the witches the least good, my favourite ones are the Rincewind, wizard and guard ones. I've only read one Moist one, but it was very good. I should probably get around to reading the rest.

I've read every single one. There's like 50 books... haven't read the short stories tho. After using the reading guide to get the books in groups, I realized I was messing up with the continuity and decided to start reading them in publishing order (the "world" in chronological order, except for Small Gods probably). To anyone who asks where to start reading: while said order is good for continuity, be warned that the first few books (Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic, Equal Rites) aren't as polished as the later ones, character personalities weren't exactly fleshed out yet (such as the case of Death which wasn't a likeable character yet) and things like "how magic works" was more a parody of stuff like D&D than the actual magical "science" that developed later in the series.

My favorites are the series about City Watch, followed by the Death ones, then Rincewind, then Witches (in that order). Ancient Civilizations are fine but I don't care much for "prequels". Industrial Revolution ones are quite fun, I'd probably put them in the same level as Watch or Death in enjoyability.

The ones I'm missing are Wintersmith and Where's my Cow. The chart in the first post doesn't include Making Money, which is a direct sequel to Going Postal.

If something happens such as Vetinari's death, I see it as an opportunity for Pratchett to shake up the extremely stable growth and improvement that has affected Ankh-Morpork since Guards Guards and The Truth. I would probably put the city into a sort of second Dark Age, but without losing all that has been gained permanently, mostly the character growth of its citizens (no longer afraid of moveable type, for example, or paper money :D). I hope he does something like that.

I'd agree that the Watch novels are very elaborate and well written masterpieces.

The Rincewind novels read more like a series of slapstick sketches, which I seem to have a quirk for (I enjoy the obscure references immensely).
They also feature next to no character development, even though the characters may suprise you at times.
However it features the most likeable character, which I can widely identify myself with. Rincewind.
