I am also in favor of getting a new map. In order to make the new dyes workable Notch greatly increased the frequency of flowers and I'd rather not have to go so far from the central areas just to lay hands on some lapis dyes. Besides, it's almost a tradition by now anyway.

I don't think we will ditch that map. Unless there are horrible generation seams on the edges, we can keep it... But it will mean the new stuff will only generated on the new chunks.

Tylui will put up a vanilla server for us soon, with the update.

In my opinion, we should not have a brand new map. However, while we wait for hMod to update, I will provide us with a temporary map, and an updated vanilla server, as per usual. Give me 5 minutes or so to get it going.

hMod is apparently being abandoned.

Bukkit is the future.

EDIT: Although he's apparently updating hMod for this version anyway, given that Bukkit isn't going to be...
Huh.  The people in charge of the hey0/bukkit IRC channels really are clueless.

Heh I knew it, but I was under the impression he was going to update hMod until Bukkit is ready. I might be wrong. Either way, Bukkit sounds amazing.

Jay, what do you think about my contest idea? ;) Especially now that colored cloth is in...?

my concern with this is that it would litter the landscape with half-finished pixel art, perhaps have it restricted to a particular area.

For the next map I would like to suggest a strip of land set aside for weekend pvp matches, where two teams are set up, each goes to one end of a strip and builds bases, and a capture the flag match starts after a bit of time.  This would be additionally nice if a copy of the play area could be made before the match, and it was reset to nature afterwards.

I was thinking of making a team competition mod before the whole issue with hmod and bukket started.

I'm now waiting to see which one is the winner.

Well... I think I'm getting closer to finding it, but if anyone comes across a little house made of dirt and a bit of cobble with a field of torches partially fenced in, could you remember where it is? I died before I could get a compass so I could get oriented and I liked that spot.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

There is now a secure tunnel running from a point roughly 20 blocks from the spawn area to the community stronghold and storage area. Feel free to make use of it but please, for the love of all that is good, patch up the walls if it gets hit by a creeper. I don't want to log in underwater in what is intended to be a secure and public structure.

I'm actually pretty fond of the new temp map, I would be in favor of keeping it.  The fact that we had ~10 people on last night was kinda nice.

No, please, no.

I want to go back to Gold4 as soon as feasibly possible - I was /just/ starting to get into doing a minor project.

Though I suppose I could always use MCedit to schematize stuff, since hMod is dead and Bukkit isn't ready yet.
