aaand its down again...
EDIT: Server temporarily shut down to fix that problem area.

It might almost be easier to just start on a fresh map...  Seems there was quite a bit of unwelcome activity elsewhere as well...
If you start a new map, gen a new map in SinglePlayer using the mod to make Biomes bigger.

If we do start a new map (which seems likely as the casualties sound like a warzone), will the current players get all diamond equipment in order to get a fast start?

Except that won't do anything when I switch it over to the server.
Only the snow and sand areas will be larger, and anything new that is generated will be normal and probably won't line up with everything else.

EDIT: Hmm, I found that problem area on the map.  It was a perfectly square line of chunks surrounding somebody's building.  I have no idea how it turned out like that.

Very suspicious.... Whose building was it centered on?

I'd be very unhappy with starting over, as would everyone I think, but at this point, with so much broken and lost, i think it may be for the best... Too many bad feelings.

I think if we do start over, the first creations should be monuments, statues, and engravings to commemorate the last map.

Not sure how we would do the engravings, but sounds like a good idea.

I'm fine with starting a new map since so much was destroyed/damaged and the list reads like a warzone casualty list of damaged/destroyed buildings.

I may be the one who has the least to lose as I'm pretty new, but I've seen some of the cool stuff in that world and how can you not admire such monuments.

MASS CHAOS
Are we for or against a map reset?  Respond in the thread, I need to gauge the response before I go about setting it in motion.

I know its a double post, but just responding to the question.

I've voiced earlier that I am willing to go with a map reset.

Personally, I'm for a map reset given the fact that so much has been destroyed that it may be impossible or near impossible to rebuild, not to mention all the problems we've been having.

Rather the map be kept, personally. Don't really see a reason to start over; at most, it's just an excuse to do something interesting with the ruins or cannibalize the damaged work for something new. Some of the damage is actually kinda' interesting, heh.

I like new maps, but definitely wait for people who have more of a stake in a reset.  I'd support it mainly for stable chunks and possible shorter save time.  And that new map smell.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I don't mind a map reset one way or the other - I'd just begun basic infrastructure on my megaproject in any case, so I haven't lost much.

Eh. I guess if I could talk someone into cuboiding me a hole in the ground to remake Freefall tower I could get behind it. Digging any significant hole down to the bedrock is entirely too time consuming to do by hand again, even with warp points and immortality to speed things up.

I kinda' like the random holes in constructions, though, for all that the loss of folks' work is a bit disheartening.

This is a wall made of obsidian. Engraved on it is a masterfully designed memorial to the chunks lost in JayCraft on 11/15.
