Scanning Cargohold to determine identity of metal and trace materials...

Identified!
100m3 scrap crystallized steel, [determined to be a harder, stronger, heavier alloy of steel, unknown how to replicate]
50m3 rock with trace thorium!

Maneuver! You grab the husk of the sensor cluster with your arm, and proceed to push it towards the asteroid you found the cavern in, for storage purposes for later. You note that the husk is still structurally sound and in one piece. It could possibly be modified for further use...

[Two Additional Turns pass]

Maneuver! You shove the husk of what was the sensor cluster into the cavern on the large asteroid.

WARNING! Six unknowns within 300km. Passive reading determines to be metallic in nature, and emanates a large quantity of heat. Appears to be heading straight for us. Attempt to communicate?

Woah, if we have "Borg-ish" tech we can just modify ourselves into anything we want as long as we have the materials...

Or, can we just assimilate?

Just assimilate, You aren't quite sure how it works either. Yet.

Attempt to communicate.  Determine their rate of speed so we know how much time we have.  If possible scan self to gain insight into how our various tools work.  Also scan the incoming craft with our new tools.  Try to conserve energy if we have very little time.

According to Wikipedia we can use this to create/help fuel a breeder reactor, which would last us quite a while fuel-wise.

at a distance of 300km already? check systemtime between the last 2 posts.
if they seem to be really fast:
and since they are emitting large amounts of heat.
most likely rocket propelled. .... Rockets? as in the exploding kind?
if so: evasive action! Try to bring yourself between them and a nearby Asteroid/the floating scrap. dodge if they do not slow down.

and: since we are multitasking scan for endolithic life in the mined ores. (base for biologic weapons GET!)

Hide in Cavern! Block entrance! Then, minimal systems - go cold, let them pass by.

What to do... Hide in Cavern? Attempt to Dodge? or Attempt to Communicate? or...?

How many hours until they arrive?

Communicate! You attempt to communicate with the unknowns... No response...

Scan! You use your advanced sensor array on the unknowns and determine them to be of the missiles! Oh shit! Estimated time of arrival: 3 turns. (100km/hr)

Evade! You duck into the asteroid and go minimal systems to lower heat!

[three turns pass]

BOOM! The asteroid you are in shakes violently and a few pieces of the cavern is dislodged and floats inside the cavern but the structural integrity of the asteroid is not compromised.

Scan! You use your advanced sensor array to search for lifeforms in nearby rock and mined ore, you detect none.

Insight! You feel you can reconfigure your mining laser to smelt ore, (50% material lost to inefficiency, lack of proper facilities.)

You feel the need for a long range weapon, and have calculated how to produce a Long Range Laser Battery, either mounted or satellite fashion.
You wonder where the missiles were launched from, or produced... Your desire to assimilate grows.

Melt iron into ingot. Try to make tools out of them.

Lingot? Or do you mean ingot? I see, it seems to be a alternative spelling of ingot yes?
