The patient ends up having his eye attached to his liver.

Urist McOtherSurgeon cancels Sugery: Went Insane
Urist McOtherSurgeon has been stricken by melancholy!
He then proceeds to choke himself with the patients intestines
Urist McOtherSurgeon has suffocated.

I've gotten the other way around. The patient kept running away to continue mining right in the middle of the procedure to set his bone.

Then:

In Dwarf Fortress, the medical malpractice lawyer's office has a warm bauxite pressure plate in front of the door.  8)
