Probably a bug.  There seems to be no way to use it for anything.

I believe it's a bug. Was probably brought in by some traders. I too have a barrel of 10 units that sits on the trade depot and does not get moved to any stockpiles because there isn't a stockpile that can designate generic "liquid" as of this version.

Oh well.... *immediately loses it among 10,000 barrels of gnomeblight.*  Those elves really hate gnomes, don't they?

It's probably a typo written in one of the behind the scenes reactions for the humans, in the same sense that if you write a product to put out a bar without a specified type, or a type that isn't actually a metal, you get "bars" that are not usable for anything but building material.

If you mod in a human merchant noble (i.e. guild representative), "liquid" shows up at the end of the "Extracts" list along with blood, milk, gnomeblight, and golden salve. If you try forbidding it and bringing it to the depot, it seems to instantly vanish.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
