Beastly Pressure Washer Defense System
« on: October 17, 2010, 11:42:29 am »

Hi all, just finished my first big project in my newest Fortress--a massive pressure washer. The best part is, it washes baddies 60 z levels into my first cavern.

It killed 9 gobbos at once (they clumped up like fools and kept walking into the stream) hilariously, and the only maintainence is taking five seconds to pump more water in (soon that too will be automated).

Anyone else used a pressure washer for defense? Surely there must be some of immense dwarfiness and power?

Look, I know you're proud of your accomplishment and are using a thin veil of interest in other people's pressure washers to talk about your own, but you should totally post some screenshots so everyone can talk about how awesome their pressure washers are and point out the inefficiencies in yours.

EDIT: I'm sorry, that was needlessly cynical. I am interested in seeing your pressure washer though! Water traps are always neat.

xD, nothing like a really inflammatory post to kick things off, haha!

Recommend me to a good screenshot program and I will happily take some.

What makes me particularly proud is not so much the scope of it (I am sure someone has built a pressure washer of unspeakable magnitudes--which I would love to see) but the trigger area. I will try and use some letter diagrams until I get some screen caps:

                    XXXXXXX
X XX        XwwwwwX        OK! X=Wall, w is water, O is the pit they get washed into, P is the pressure plate linked to the door of the pressure washer, and F is a
X   XXXXXXX wwwwX        fortification to keep the door safe. The lower D is the door to my fort, and also serves to keep the water rushing straight ahead rather
XXOP    FDwwwwwwX       than into my fortress.
     XXXXXDXX wwwwwX
     XXXXX  XX wwwwwX
     XXXXX  XXXXXXXXX

If you're using a windows, ctrl+print screen will take a screenshot of your entire screen. Paste into paint or your image manipulation program of choice, save and upload onto an image hosting website of choice.

Floor has been ecstatic lately. It took joy in slaughter lately. It had a nice bath recently.

No, unfortunately it just goes through someone's bedroom.

I am considering building the king's room around it and replacing the walls with diamond windows though.

If you're going to try to represent it with text you should use the code box. Type it out with bbc brackets or just click the little # button above the last smilie. It gives things their own little box and makes all of the letters the same width so you don't have to fiddle with lining them up.

But really in most situations pressing print screen, and then ctrl+v into MS Paint will get you a screenshot pretty quick. We usually type stuff out for planning and screenshot to show something we've actually made.

I like this kind of trap. It's giving me some ideas. I like the drain down to the cavern. But what about goblinite? Or not worried about the metal supply?

I find enough get slaughtered by the weapon traps on the way in, that I am never in short supply. Also, this trap is really ideally designed for titans/other things with Trapavoid. I also recently added a lever to dispose of nobles.

Pressure plates aren't triggered by trapavoid monsters

Seems like a very short amount of time for a lever to stop a building destroying, trap avoider before it busts through that door.

Is the pressure plate activation of the door almost instant?
