So I am making this kind of project. I already invested 3 embarks for building that tower. There is a fortification at level 2, for defensive purposes and all was made of assorted wood building materials.

I'm kind of thinking what to put on the top...

Put a magma lantern to the top. That way it'll multi-purpose as a lighthouse. Of course, you'll need to set up a hundred levels of pumps in order to get that magma up there, but I guess it's all the same if you actually finish a tower 100 z-levels high.

Making a massive toothpick jutting out from an even more massive mouth in the ground seems like a great way to tell the elves what you think about their plea that you not cut down so many trees. I can't really think of a way to work soap into the equation but it should go in too.

you should put branches on the tower and attach 'leaves' of green glass to it, try for a realistic tree design, and submit it to toady as an example for procedurally designing elf tree homes...
