Most browsers have a built-in search function under their edit menu that scans the text on the page for matches with the text in the search field.

control F works in most programs, although some email programs think you want to forward the message when you do that.

Or ' despite the fact that sometimes FireFox doesn't know you're typing in a text entry box and will pick up that keystroke.  Bugged the !!HFS!! out of me until I figured out how to turn it off.

Heck, you don't have to hit any keys at all, just start typing. / is used to search plain text only and ' is to search links only, IIRC.
