Thrown harpy...
« on: January 15, 2008, 04:23:00 pm »

quote:
You grab The harpy by the body with your right lower arm!
The harpy gives in to pain.
You throw The harpy by the body with Your right lower arm!
The harpy slams into an obstacle and blows apart!
The harpy has died after colliding with an obstacle.

You can't normally throw live opponents, but this harpy passed out, and I managed to throw her before she collapsed. Later, I threw one more, though with less of a smack. This is, theoretically, a bug, but I'm of the opinion that you should be able to throw live opponents too.

Maybe allow throwing a prone opponent? They are usually unconscious...

What's the difference between a throw and a take-down then?

A takedown would be like grabbing your arm and kicking your legs out from under you to make you fall down.

A throw is well... a throw. Grab the guys arm and throw him off the screen. I mean if I can do it with an elephant....

Of course a wrestling throw is something else, but considering the power we have on tap its worth classifying them as something else in this case.

That was a wrestling throw. If you kill them with a wrestling throw it gives you that message. Also their body parts shoot waaaaaaayyyy far away.

I finished a wolf off with a throw and I eventually stopped following the blood trail of one of its parts when I had gone three screens NE. It continued on.

The difference between a throw and a takedown is that a takedown has (game-wise) a better chance for success, but only makes the opponent prone. The opponent usually stands up next move. A throw has a greater chance of failure (resulting in the "you adjust your grip yada yada" message), but the opponent is stunned, and cannot stand up on the next move or two. Actual throwing of live, normal-condition opponents is almost unattainable, though it does happen from time to time. This particular bug was achieved with a beginner elf, having 1505 speed rating. When the wrestling skill upgraded, and speed bumped to 1669, I could no longer reproduce the same throw.

The harpy was thrown against a tree, btw, though it did not fly very far. The second harpy was more lucky, and landed in a pool, but she flew some 2 screens away (aerodynamic profile?). All with hardly so much as 1 point of strength on my part.

A harpy?

I would have played with it's--

* GreyMario has collided with an obstacle and died.
