You should move the IC discussion there. We shouldn't really say anything that the Haz mods don't approve of and the thread is attracting drama to B12, which tends to tick off Toady. And it's not like any secret discussion when everyone in Haz comes here to read it :P

This thread here should stay as more of a "hey guys look i found a cool game" thread

Remember when this *was* just a "hey guys look i found a cool game" thread?  RP only works if you're playing a character, not yourself.  I've said this before but it's always the same story, with every RPG, and not just with you guys - with people in general.  I've never found an RPG where people actually roleplayed characters rather than considering their character to be themselves and getting personally affected every time something happens to them.

I've finished enough of my map that it can be used to get from Newlands to Abaloddom.  Certainly there is tons of world left to map but my interest in this game was starting to fade with all the drama going on, and now that there's been another wipe and I no longer have my bag and all my Hazium stuff, I think it'll be a while before I can motivate myself to play it again.  I'm sure I'll come back, but I just need a break.

That leaves the question of what to do with the map.  I will not have it going to waste, but I don't want to post something like that online.  Not only is that a pretty big breach of RP, it would also give everyone on the internet a map to the fortress.  Sure, most people can find it easily enough, but I'm not going to make it any simpler than necessary.

So I propose that I meet someone in-game, preferably on Newlands so I don't have to build another boat from scratch, and "write" the link to the map on a parchment or something, if someone has the necessary materials, or on a sign at the fortress (if someone ferries me there) otherwise.  Naturally my character will expect something in trade, though I don't know what kind of resources the dwarves have now after the wipe.  Anyhow, that can be sorted out in-game.  My question is, is anyone interested in meeting me for the map?  I'll log into IRC in a bit and see if anyone's around.

In my opinion, the drama is from jerk veteran Haz players who don't like the fact we RP dwarves. They want us gone, so do their damnedest to grief us.

Me and Bugslinger went on a exploration of the world for rune circles and found a lot of real neat places. Some of them with caves that were pretty untouched, yet we have to have not one, not two, but three different groups in rapid succession colonizing our "perfect" area. So it's been much worse than the griefing that occurred previous to the last big wipe.

I don't know. I'll be reporting it when the server is back up. It's possible.

Edit: No Wipe.

(On an unrelated note, if we were to switch to Haz's forum, we'd need spoiler tags. Or at least I would...)

I know people perceive this as a big drama fest, but honestly I don't think it is. It's certainly tiring to be one of the, oh, three groups worth noting in Haz, because we get a lot of "attention."

But I think the skullduggery, territorial conflict ect.... is what actually draws people into Haz. The only decent RP experiences I've had are with admins, for the most part. It's hard to say the RP with teh people of the South has been good, since there's been so much ganking on both sides.

Either way, I'm pretty opposed to moving our discussion over to their forums. I'm not sure why we should, or why we need to, other than the fact some people don't like conflict of any sort. Which I think is pretty silly in the context of Haz, since the entire game revolves around conflict. It's basically a fantasy arson simulator half the time.

On the map, you could put it up on a webspace and only link it to a document in game. That'd keep it pretty secure, I think.

I fired 100 bolts from a crossbow to get a feeling of how it is, and this is the outcome. S is the standing position, X is the target. Numbers are the amount of arrows found at those locations.
A=14
B=20
C=12
D=28
Code: [Select]
0 Urists ..S..
1 Urists .....
2 Urists .....
3 Urists .2A2.
4 Urists .1B1.
5 Urists .3C3.
6 Urists .2D2.
7 Urists .5X5.
I suspect that not all of those 28 would count as damaging the target, but I can't tell exact amount. This is what happens when you shoot at a target at the edge of your view.
so, it's a 20% chance to hit at the edge of the view at 7 Urists. It is probably a 40% chance if in 6 Urists, 60% chance in 5 Urists, 80% chance if it is in 4 Urists. Probably 90% or greater in 3 Urists. Probably 100% chance in 2 Urists.

Edit:
I took 1 step back and repeated with 1000 arrows.
Here are the figures:
Code: [Select]
|---|---|---|
|---|---|---|
|019|157|018|
|022|160|021|
|040|135|036|
|029|130|039|
|037|130|027|

They shared the world, and lived at peace. That didn't last. It begun innocently enough, the dwarves found a rich vein of Hazium in the earth. They pursued it under a elven temple. It surfaced right near the altar of the elven god. The dwarves broke through. The elven gods were livid, and demanded retribution. They eventually decreed that dwarves would live below, where their greed brought them. Elves would remain aloof, untouched by the base toil of those who lived below. And so it went, for as long as an elf walked upon the surface, dwarves were condemned to live below. Some dwarves attempted to return, but never lasted long. Sometimes elves found a way below. Equal justice was delivered upon them. And so things went, the elves enjoying the bounty of rich foods from above, while the dwarves below ate Flurms, Yeese, and Murshums. Even so, the dwarves thrived while the elves declined, and eventually the Dwarves were able to supply full expeditions to the surface. They began small, but eventually they got together and established a fortress they called "Beardpulley" in the Dwarven Language.

Elves are intellectual? I thought they just ate people.

In ages past, the dwarves and the elves shared the world. The dwarfs preferred worldly tasks, like working with their hands or digging, while the elves delved into their magical studies and the great mysteries. They lived at peace for a time. But it was to be short lived.

It began innocently enough. The dwarves found a rich vein of Hazium in the earth. They followed it under a elven temple, and surfaced right near the altar of the elven god. The elven gods were livid, and demanded retribution. They eventually decreed that dwarves would live below, among the metals they cherished so much. Elves would remain aloof, away from the dwarves untouched by the base toil and greed of those who lived below.

And so it went, for as long as an elf walked upon the surface, dwarves were condemned to live below. Some dwarves attempted to return, but their efforts were always futile in the end. Occasionally, younger elves found a way below, some seeking to know the race they had condemned to darkness. The dwarves showed them the same mercy they felt they'd received.

As the aoens passed, the dwarves bitterness deepened. The elves enjoyed a bounty of rich foods from above, while the dwarves below ate Flurms, Yeese, and Murshums. Even so, the dwarves thrived while the elves declined, and eventually the Dwarves were able to supply full expeditions to the surface. They began small, but eventually they organized and established a fortress they called "Beardpulley" in the Dwarven Language.

Well, we completely ransacked Eskandus today. A few of them showed up at various points in the night. If you're logging on tomorrow, I'd keep a weather eye out for trouble.

Of course since those guys already bring trouble every time we see them, it's not like anything's changed. They might try their hand at retaliatory building destruction though.

As of now they haven't tried anything, although they're coming online in numbers. The server just crashed.
