The server seem to be down for an update + wipe.

Once it gets back up, i think i'll take the aldean heritage instead of northerner, their stats seem to be better and the're supposed to have lived in caves or something, so its closer to a dwarf.

Which is supposed to be one of the upcoming changes, that totems are going to be reworked.

So yeah. While I know they don't intend it to be this way, RIGHT NOW, we are basically a target for everyone's desire to do bad because we had the temerity to build off our racial continent.

(An idea which I have always been left going "Why?" Why encourage people to only build on a place they can build totems? It leads to static game play, and the exact situation we have now; anyone who builds outside of a totem is free pickings.)

I don't know what all is part of this update, but I don't think totems are. The fact stone walls are going to be literally 1,000x stronger should help though.

---

And that's ANOTHER thing that gets me about this game.

Everyone is a fucking liar.

Everyone.

How do you RP in Hazordhu? LIE your ass until someone trusts you, then screw them. Didn't keep track of their name? Too bad. Did they lie about their name? Too bad.

I MET the fucking orc that pillaged our fort. I was like "aren't the people wearing flargl hoods Gorge orcs?" So I see him smashing down walls. I run in and gank him and he ganks me at the exact same time. We both wake up next to each other. And WHAT does he say?

"Oh, I thought you were an orc."

"Oh really? I thought you were an orc because you were SMASHING DOWN OUR WALLS."

"Oh they're hiding in here somewhere, I was looking for them."

The whole meat of this game revolves around deception, and it's really, really, really fucking tiresome. We had no less than 10 people in one day try to join the fort, for the express purpose of getting inside to ruin it.

Again, I know this isn't their intention, but so many mechanics fuel this shit. Like not being able to tell race worth a damn just by looking at someone. Being able to hide your real identity from everyone. All that stuff.

It's why I built my own homestead. It's really frustrating to have to interrogate every single person that comes to the fort, and then half of the bastards end up wandering around inside later the minute a door or wall is breached.

So yeah. My opinion on RP in Hazordhu as of now is "Fuck you, and the bux you rode in on." I don't trust anyone I don't know from Bay12, period. Starving? Go die. Freezing? Do it in the wilderness. Dying of thirst? No, I won't piss on you.

I like RPG worlds. But this is one reason I avoid playing in them. Because there's always some group of people that has exploited the rules, the positioning and even the spirit of the game, just to get their grief on. There's nothing RP about what's going on with the orcs. It's purely bored fucking players who until now have been totally hamstrung with being able to fight ANYONE else.

Sirian, do you go to any IRC chats?  I'd like to talk to you on one of those, so communication can be quick.  In fact, all of us should probably be on some sort of IRC right now.

Hey there.  I've been creeping this topic since it started.

Just to let you guys in on a little secret.  I snuck into the update the inability to use totems and capture flags.  This should level the playing field as well as weed out solitary/bad roleplayers.

Hope this helps your RP out.

I almost never use IRC, but i could, and you're right, since we can't talk about IC on the OOC channel, its better to have a separate channel of communication that is faster than the forum.

Well, I don't want to use it to cheat the communication system.  But I do want to use it for planning.  Simple things like "Hey, let me get the key to the fort" could easily be handled if someone with privs was on IRC.  Things that don't need to be RP'd, or would be tedious, could be handled.  Plus we could strategize without having our plans exposed to Orcs directly.

If one of you is able to host, I could send you the host files for my Hazordhu Dev chat room with some mods to make it more "RP Planning" friendly.  Here's a link so those interested can get a preview: byond://174.3.208.194:5000

And Kogan, Joe Proctor is exactly what I'm talking about. I'd met that guy four or five times before he ever even got inside the fort. Hung around with him, RP'd, yadda yadda. He told me he was coming to help at the fort during the last attack, and I dunno, maybe he was there to help, because I never saw him do anything wrong. But that's my point. You have to watch everyone like a hawk, and half the time it's impossible to figure out who was responsible for what.

So yeah. Our next policy should be "This fort is for Bay12 only, and people that recently register to talk on the Bay12 forums are considered spies and will be skinned then hung from the battlements."

For those that don't know...

There are only THREE armor types. Leather Chain and Plate.

Cloth is worth NOTHING.

There are also three damage types.

Piercing Blunt and Slashing.

Each armor type is more or less resistant to one of those damage types.

This is misleading. The wiki says there is no defense against other PCs. Some of the people in OOC chat agreed about this. So, unless something has changed in the patches between then and now, armor is useless against other PCs, only good against NPCs. You could try and test this by sparring naked.

:(  Even if said person registered to help?

Also.  Armour does give bonuses vs different types.  The wiki is ran by the community, and as such not updated very much (if at all).

That would explain the extraordinarily high hp values of the new walls, though I just hope nobody decides to grief by building walls everywhere just to make everything impossible. Is the addition of a dwarf race actually being considered?

I'm neutral on the topic at the moment.  If you stick around for awhile and contribute to the RP, there's no reason they wont be added.
