My outpost liason came with the caravan across the frozen river (it freezes in early autumn) but he decided to leave through the caverns and was promptly strangled by a troll. Do liasons get replaced in 31.16?

I think you get a new liaison every year still.

Also, what visualizer are you using?

Overseer.

It actually looks better than that, but I turned down the texture quality and turned off vegetation so it would run on my laptop.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

In the second late spring, four things happened simultaneously.

First, the northern half of the river melted.

Second, I got my first fey mood, and it was a weaponsmith.

Third, the elf caravan arrived on the southern half of the river.

Fourth, I discovered magma.

This is a good omen.

Yep, freezing embarks are fun, I embarked on a freezing freshwater lake, and now have an entrance to my fort in the middle of the lake, and the fort itself is about 30 levels below.

"Freezing" iirc measures anywhere from (by worldgen settings) -1000 to maybe 10 degrees, leading to borderline freezing areas having the ice melt sometimes.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

There's a giant glass crab sitting at the bottom of the pool next to my fort. I don't know why it's not attacking me. There's a clear (and terrifyingly short) path from him to the heart of my cave settlement, but he's just sitting there. Maybe he's having a REALLY interesting conversation with the cave lobsters.

In any case, I'm not complaining since I haven't really done much with my military yet. I set up an emergency barrack so my dwarves can practice with that bronze warhammer studded with bronze my moody weaponsmith made. All I've got for now aside from that is copper axes and recruits, but there's a vein of tin around here somewhere so I might have time to upgrade my equipment to bronze. According to the wiki, glass isn't very strong, so shattering the crab shouldn't be too hard.

Also I got a second mood. It's a wooden crossbow called "The Defective Attack." I'm a bit hesitant to use it.

Obviously, the game knows dwarves these days simply bash things with crossbows, and named it accordingly. Now a LEAD crossbow, however, might have done some damage, shame.

It's clear to him that you may shatter his brilliant pane into thousands of pieces.
EDIT: It'd also be a pane in the glass to walk that distance to your fort. Glass isn't exactly mobile, y'know!

I made the mistake of thinking locked threads could be unlocked.
Frankly, I was wrong.

Engaged the crab in combat after outfitting my five recruits with crappy bronze armor and exceptional bronze weapons. Knocked off its head with the bronze hammer studded with bronze. No causualties. Unless the slime my soldiers are coated in makes their lungs catch fire or something.

This is a healthy Urist McDwarf's lung. It works just as well as you'd expect a dwarven lung to work.

This is a Urist McDwarf's lung on glass crab blood. It is... OH MY GOD IT'S ON FIRE RUN URIST MCSCHOOLCHILD RUN

I'm guessing the glass shards got lodged in the soldiers' lungs, making them suffocate.
That sure is a paneful way to die.

All of the beds in my hospital are covered in blood. Is this normal?
