Reality is actually a multiverse. When a Multiverse Toady creates Dwarf Fortress, a Big Bang is created somewhere. When Multiverse Toady finishes a Dwarf Fortress, that entire universe contracts into a Big Crunch.

Reality is actually one big cycle of Dwarf Fortress becoming so powerful that it eradicates the universe.

It happened to Armok 1, but I think it's possible to evade it. If Toady fixes existing features before moving on to new ones. But as it currently stands, as a project where features are put in because they're cool, and (to a limited extent) ignoring bugs (and optimization), it's very possible to go the way of Armok 1.
