Humans fail at making bridges.
« on: October 14, 2010, 05:41:58 pm »

Should've hired dwarves to build it. It might menace with spikes of magma, fling every 37th traveler to the stingray-infested water, or atom-smash anyone who tried to bring a cat over it, but at least it would get you to the other side.

That ground to the left is pretty damn weird, too. Except for a small area next to the bridge, those aren't the tops of walls. Just floors with nothing below them but grass and trees. Also there's a cavern entrance in the bit where the only walls are. Also when I un-traveled to this area I was caught in a burst of loamy sand, and then magma. This place confuses me.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Have you seen the bridge that was built underwater by some people? That was literally take two steps forward and then plunge into the water and swim to the otherside.

It's not just humans. I have these "bridges to nowhere" all over, mostly next to roads for some reason, including at least one mountain hall.

Well...it's possible they kept getting distracted by random animals & beasts & kept on cancelling the job to run to their homes all through out world-gen for all we know.

...Or maybe the bridge maker kept chasing buzzards that he eventually got out of the "town border" & wound up lost, too stupid to walk just a bit back the same direction he came from.

Who said it was a bridge?
I assumed they were going to put a plump helmet on the end of a fishing rod and try to catch a buzzard.

Bridges are bugged, I think.

They just make these wierd diving board shaped roads into the sky.

Maybe it's nice to 'cannonball' on it and splash into the warm soil.  :P

I'm pretty sure there are double rainbows over bridges to nowhere.

I once flung a migrant off a bridge. He collided with the brook cliff and died.
A year later, my legendary engraver engraved him colliding with an obstacle and dying.

No it's a new strategy to deal with eagles! They are trying to drop a bridge on top of them!

Damn, that's clever. Why didn't I think of that to get rid of the resident giant zombie eagle population?

I guess it's because the eagles generally get smashed into the ground at the speed of light thanks to atomsmasher mechanics. Horrible mess, apparantly - not nearly as clean as a bridge simply built over a pit on the ground.
