More dwarf at embark!!! for SDL version only.
« on: October 14, 2010, 05:41:51 pm »

Yes this is true, due to ingenious !!Dwarf Science!! some managed to find out how to increase the number of dwarf, but hexadecimal editing is not for everyone or they just plain dont want to mess up with it.

I did these hacks pretty fast but they should be reliable as i only changed the starting dwarf offset.

Link to start with 10 dwarf. (DF .16)
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3272

Link to start with 15 dwarf. (DF .16)
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3273

Link to start with 20 dwarf (DF .16)
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3274

This is the straight exe file no compression, make sure they are the same size EXACT same size as your dwarf fortress. I have Pheobus graphic set with the executable, wich is it SDL or the other i have no idea. Will update as i find out.

Have fun!
----------------
Edit: How to use

1. Download the embark size you want.
2. Put the downloaded Exe in your DF folder alondside with the original one.
3. DOUBLE CHECK that your exe file is the EXACT same size as the one downlaod , if the size dont match it WONT work.

4. when you want a new embark with more dwarf simply start with the downloaded one, after you can use any exe and it should work.

Compatible with ANY mod at all, as long the mod dont corrupt the game itself.
-----------------

If you want one for another version or a specific number of dwarf please send me a pm so i can work it out with you and upload a version that will fit your needs.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

So, how exactly do you use this?

Detailed instructions would be nice for this sort of thing, but it does look interesting, so I'll download it now and try it out.

you simply put the edited exe file in your df directory, and then run it

Alright, I tried that and got nothing. I reread the OP, and am I correct in assuming that it only works with vanilla DF?

If that is the case, I am unable to use it as I run genesis mod DF, but it is still a very nice mod if it works as you say it does.

I don't suppose there'd be any way to get it work on any version, would there?

Could we have the memory address for this, please? That would be really handy for us hex/mem editor folks!

Good lord, leave modding and pay attention to your wife! I was modding DF and playing ADOM when my wife was pregnant, and she still remembers it after 5 years :P.

I've noticed and issue with Zoning and this hack. It seems certain zone areas are now tied together (meeting, sand pit, garbage and a couple of others).

Hmmmm i dont think its my hack wich cause that, but i do know when you are sertting it up ( before confirming it will show all available in () to everthing possible, but once you have it laid out you have to set it up buy pressing the hotkey (G) for garbage etc, maybe you have some zone wth mixed option?

P.S.: typing with my mobile gimme a chance.

i played a few hours with this and didn't notice "zoning" problems.. highly doubt that changing just that two digits causes any propblems
