though you might be able to get an opening into the shaft by giving the chasm 0 walls, and starting the hole close to a cliff (though I've not tried this myself).

I can confirm this works, at least in dwarf mode and whenever hellhole will work at all in adventure mode.

There's no instructions on how to use this. I boot up the program with DF running, move my "look" X to where I demand fire and brimstone, go through the application's process, and it crashes.

Edit:
If you're having the same problem, do this.

1. Download this.
2. Move the exe into extracted directory.
3. Launch exe.
4. Follow process.
5. ???
6. Magically works and profit.

Yeah, it needs the latest dfhack memory.xml to work properly :)

Despite there not being a post on this thread for nearly a month, when you got to ask, you got to ask.

Since this program can make a bottomless pit, is it possible to make the old-school chasm as well? Maybe even the old-school underground river, without the water of course.

i got a suggestion. this is very useful and all but once i get a magma pit i still cant build magma forges.

You need to "discover" magma first. Like, have a miner channel a tile by the edge of the generated magma pit, and you should get announcements about how you've located this and that, unlocking magma buildings.

i have located i even dug into it and let magma out still no message that i found magma. it was magma pit not pool so. hmmm could it be due to me using phoebus graphic set? i have no clue what im doing wrong.

ok. solution their was nothing cause i was already on volcano god im an idiot lol. well now i still made a pit so how do i get my magma forge to be powered? build the forge above  the magma yes? nevermind i got it YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES i love this mod now :D.

Alas this utility does not work with the new version of DF. When loading the memory map, the following error message is generated: This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Windows itself generated the following message.

As a lark I tried dumping in the dfhack.dll and Memory.xml files for the latest version of dfhack and got quite a different error message of course. Thinking of reverting to an older version of DF just to goof with this tool.

How is that an "of course" thing to say?
In fact, it should work fine, if you use DFHack 0.5.7 exe and memory stuff (0.5.8 changed the API for some bizarre reason)

0.5.8 changed the API because it had to.
When you are writing a memory hack API for a program for which there is no source code or technical documentation, it is impossible to provide compatibility across versions for very long.
Peterix is doing a fine job.  Brave enough to re-write the parts he learns he messed up the first time; brave enough make the API match DF internal changes rather than desperately sticking to what he already has;  always improving.


I will update this (along with my other tools) once DF gets bugfixed to the stability of, say, version 40d.
