so how do one update this?
by dumping the new memory/Dfhack.dll files into the hellhole changer?

Yup, just drop the latest dfhack memoty.xml into the directory and you're good to go.

I've noticed a sort of bug that might need looking at as well. When creating a pillar through caverns, any muddy floor is replaced with an obsidian block with mud "on top" - the mud isn't removed so stays there. I thought this was purely cosmetic to begin with, and left it as it was. Later on, however, I had carverns randomly appear, and cavern creatures turning up in my fort.

What I've realised is happening is that df will allow plants to grow in the mud, even though there's technically an obsidian wall in the way. When plants do grow, they destroy the wall. I can deal with that on the dry cavern sections, but if there's water involved it gets a bit more complicated (I've resorted to using dfliquids to place and cool magma.).

Is there any way, as a future update, to have hellhole look for muddy tiles and remove the mud if it's dropping an obsidian tile there?

I'm unsure if this was caused by me using Hellhole, but maybe it was. But in a recent Fortress when I plopped down a magma tube and tapped into it, I did NOT have access to any magma workshops.

Although that save also had no plump helmets for some reason either, so it may have been a pre-existing problem.

EDIT:
It would be appear that creating magma via Hellhole and then breaching it will NOT make the game recognize you have "discovered" magma. I think to create the magma workshops/furnaces you need to breach the actual magma sea, or a pre-existing magma tube for the game to recognize it.

Hmm, mine's renamed to dwarfort.exe as well, still works. All I did was copy Memory.xml from DFHack 0.5.1 and it worked for me.

This is correct.
It was also a known problem with using the Reveal tool.  I'll look and see how Reveal handles it.

That should work.  Be sure you only copy the XML file.

If anyone needs to know; I found a workaround for mud appearing on obsidian walls when they are generated in caverns. It takes a bit of doing to get right, but works.

Create a chasm of the shape you eventually want (I overlap successive runs of hellhole to get the shape rather than regenning until I get the perfect one). Make it with no walls, just a chasm all the way down.

Then run dfliquids and create a layer of magma, 7 deep that covers the area of the chasm, so that it drop all the way down and off the map. When the magma falls through the tiles which would have mud in them, it appears that the mud flag is reset.

You can then place the obsidian pillar as you please, with no mud at the cavern layers.

Are you trying to create a pillar of obsidian into the air or something? I don't play adventurer mode, but I have it a quick try just now on the phoebus version, I created an obsidian pilar with no problems.

Hellhole gave me the tile does not exist error when I was in dwarf mode and started hellhole with the cursor in the air rather than on a subterranean tile. Otherwise I have no idea what's going on...

by air you mean the grass? if so then this kinda removes the ability to make large holes in grounds using just this alone.
edit: just tested this nah still doesn't work if you point the look/talk cursor down a couple Z levels.
I think this was just a quick fix for Dwarf mode and for people using adventurer mode have to wait for a proper update. ohwell back to Dl .18 tweak and slowly carving holes into rock.

Hmmm, I've just been playing a little more with it in adventure mode, and it does have issues; it's giving me the same error you get in some areas, but not in others. I think the chasms it creates are always capped in any case, though you might be able to get an opening into the shaft by giving the chasm 0 walls, and starting the hole close to a cliff (though I've not tried this myself).

this is pretty impressive, works like a charm, and I am pleased in general with it.
