Impossible, no girls on the internet. :P

But what does that have to do with anything anyway?

short update due to me announcing a megaproject I probably won't finish:

6th Felsite 153

Asen Akmamkeskal dealed himself some painful wounds, when he was building the floor over the entrance. Expecting that the floor bars would hold the weight of the newly build floor, he didn't care for any other means to stabilize the construction and became entangled with it when it fell, pulling him down as well. He is currently brought to hospital, so I have to see for the medical diagnose, but even my untrained eye can recognize that he has two bad wounds: One at his left lower arm, the other one at his left lower leg, presumably those parts where hit by the falling rocks. No ther dwarves where hurt, but the force of the impact blew a hole into the roof of the hospital.

8th Felsite 153

We now have the medical diagnosis of Asen: Both his lower left arm's and lower left leg's bones are broken, but the doctor told me that he will eventually work again. Good news!

11th Felsite 153

I have worked out a new plan to kill massive goblin attacks, in case they happen: I'm going to build a giant water reservoir above the landscape, and then fill it with water. The water will be released whenever necessary, so the gobbos will hopefully drown :)

21st Felsite 153

I have ordered our masons to build the base for the little pump stack and dug a bit of tunnel under it so we can pump nearly directly from the river.

6th Hematite 153

The elves have arrived for trade, but that's already one month ago. We brought all mugs we have to the trade depot and are now awaiting our trader. When he didn't show up for some time, I sent someone to look for him. Appearantly he was sitting totally drunk in the booze stockpile, unable to do a simple thing such as walking or speaking. Doing something like trading is so far out of his reach, I'd fear if he did that even after a lot of sleep. So, the only thing I could do here was to bring him to his bed and wait another week for him to get up. Sigh.

12th Hematite 153

I finally got teh broker up and running. He bought us a big load of wood and some nice animals: a scorpion, an one-humped camel, a two-humped one, aaaand a tiger. Now the only thing left to do is finding out what for I could use them...

25th Hematite 153

The waterbassin is going onward quite nicely. The pump stack is nearly build and only needs to be completed with pumps, power is already up. Now on to let the masons build the bassin itself. It will be a grid of remotely operated retracting bridges, lined with small ledges of stone holding the thing together when the bridges are opened. I've added a crude drawing of how it could look:

6th Malachite 153

While hauling the green glass tubes I prompted our newly made legendary glassmaker for, Lor Tinesteemed freaked out, screaming at everyone. I don't think she tried to insult them, because she also screamed at the walls and her own feet. She then hurried along the tunnel and claimed the next available craftdwarf's workshop. I wonder what she is up to...

8th Galena 153

Not much more happened during the rest of Malachite as construction of the bassin continued, but when I wanted to write my log for today, I saw the previous entry and checked for Lor Tinesteemed. She seems to have locked up herself because she couldn't get any silk cloth. I will be opening the caverns again today and send someone down to get her some cave spider silk.

14th Galena 153

I have dug a small tunnel into the caverns and sent Rigoth Hawkpainted in. Let's hope we get him back in one piece and totally cluttered with cave spider silk. Pretty soon after him our chief medical dwarf, Fikod Ralkol came after him, stating he really needed to get something... I hope this doesn't turn out bad.

15th Galena 153

The humans have arrived for trading, though I'm currently not too sure if they will have anything of interest. We'll see.

18th Galena 153

Suddenly a snatcher appeared right in the military's barracks, but it was easily patched out by the guys training there. They piled up against him and already the first strike tore apart the heart. He was already dead then, but the people continued slaughtering him as if they were in a frenzy: Hacking him in the spine was probably the meanest part of it, but the final blow was dealt by the speardwarf Fikod Onreloltar, who stabbed his head and brain.
In the meantime, Hawkpainted has come back, triumphating about the giant cave spider silk cloth he had collected and weaved. Probably Tinesteemed can finish her surprise now...

19th Galena 153

Lor Tinesteemed snatched the silk cloth right out of Hawkpainted's hands, running back to the workshop with it. The she had already assembled some cat and rhesus macaque bon to build whatever thing she might have planned.
While waiting for the results, I can as well trade with the humans, let's see what they have.

21st Galena 153

I was digging out some space for the control room of the giant construction, when I heard strange noises from the underground, about the direction of where I left the open tunnel so we could harvest some more silk. I quickly ran there, but soon I met Kris, reporting to me the horror which was about to come. A peasant, marbling at the beauty of the cave vegetation had seen what made these noises and now ran around the fortress, screaming:

I was so horrified, I couldn't even move a single finger. This thing was just too much for my peace and ease loving heart. Next to me, I saw the military rushing downwards, trying to stop the diamond monster coming from the Depths, then I passed out.

Metime00 later told me, what had happened when I was awake again:
"We evacuated the civies into the panic room, hoping no one would have stolen the stored booze and food there, so they would be able to stay there for a while. We then took position halfway up the stairs, of course only after first taking a drink and finishing our armor and dodging demonstrations. We were waiting there, in the dark, when suddenly someone screamed up behind us. We winced at the shock, then readied our weapons and stared into the dark tunnel behind us. What horrors might come to us right now? When we saw a shadow approaching, the archers wanted to shoot their crossbows right at the phantom, but I had them wait, since they wouldn't hit anything at that moment. The shadow approached, and as it approached, it became more and more shape, the shape of Lor Tinesteemed, who was grinning with a unmoved face and wearing a cat bone gauntlet at her right hand. I took a closer look at it, and it proved to be completely worthless. I don't know where she trashed the silk and rhesus macaque bone to, but it was simply a gauntlet of highest quality, although composed of s***ty materials. She told me that she named it Tatlosh Kithin, "The Fish of Cacti", worth 1320 dwarfbucks, and I just told her to go the f**k off to the panic room, since we had serious business to do here. [...]"

OOC EDIT: where the heck did she stuff the other stuff? I was sure that she demanded silk cloth and had some rhesus macaque bone in the workshop, too... Also, isn't the minimum worth of artifacts a bit higher? all that goddamn military is drinking and watching demonstrations, but the FB isn't moving either... sigh.

After getting his rage down, Metime00 went on:
"Since Kris was busy managing the overall situation, I was given the command over the two other squads. I decided to send Uvash Tosidotsus, an axedwarf under Kris' command, to go and scout where the beast was waiting. She was all shaking, but then took heart and went off, in direction of the noises. After a while, we heard splashing, and then the screams of Uvash, so we quickly charged towards the source of the noise. Following her instinct, Kris told us to better go to the panic room, so she and three dwarves of her choosing would rush to Uvash's aid. These were: The wrestler Mestthos Sakzulkidet, the one-handed swordsdwarf 'lefty' and the wrestler Iton Kulalfikod. The rest was directed to guard the panic room.
When we arrived, we had nothing more to do than holding back crazy civilians that wanted to flee the panic room. They stated it were a death trap, and they would all be killed by goblins if they would not do anything right now. 'Goblins?' I asked them, thoroughly surprised. 'Yes!' said the voice of a little girl behind the adults, 'I saw them myself! They where attacking the trade depot, and now all humies are gone. But the gobbos are gone, too! The humans defended against them, but then ran away. There were only three or four gobbos left, and they ran away from the humies. How stupid!'. I quickly ordered the dwarves under my command upstairs, to guard the entrance against further attacks. Next time the human traders would not be there to help us out."
"At the same time", Kris added, "we were arriving at the small underground-peninsula where Uvash was fighting the monster. It was striking at Uvash, but she was able to parry all the shots, until it began to tackle her. she was driven towards the wall in her back, but then finally managed to trick the beast into jumping against a wall. She then continued to hack at it, in a unbelievable speed. We could hardly make out which bodypart of her was where, so fast was he raging at the thing. We could not persuade ourselves to jump in the battle, out of fear to be hurt by our own comrade. At some point, it won some space again, and then went on striking at Uvash, and she went on blocking it's shots, until it pulled out an iron low boot it obviously had taken off her earlier, because Uvash was missing one boot. It then continued beating her with the boot until finally landing a direct blow at the head. Since Uvash was wearing no helmet, the iron boot was going right through, smashing her brain and spraying her head in all directions. This of course freaked out my companions, and together we overwhelmed the beast with no further injuries. Special note should be taken of the marksdwarf Meng Regasiz, who was able to kill finally kill the monster with a clean swipe at it's lower body, effectively hitting it off the upper body and thereby killing the monster.
By further inspecting the fight scene, we now know that the forgotten beast was waiting for Uvash - may she rest in peace - in the water, suddenly ambushing her. Her body is now transported to the burial place, her equipment will be reused for her successor."
Kris sniffed, wiped a tear from her eye and then continued giving orders to her squad to continue training, so that something like this shall never happen again.

8th Limestone 153

I ordered Kris to go search for someone to replace Uvash, and she came up with an otherwise pretty useless peasant. He was immediately recruited into the military as axedwarf. Meanwhile, I was astonished how loving Kris treated her shield, it's nearly as if she became attached to it at some point... Also the production of steel armor was taken up, so that everyone will be protected well.

6th Sandstone 153

The rest of last month passed without any incidents, but today Asen Akmamkeskal, who seems to have recovered from his breaks earlier this year, had a nice idea. Only thing was, he didn't want to tell anyone. So he went to a craftsdwarf's workshop and started collecting materials. As it seems, he wanted to compromise the time he lay in hospital with some intense work. That's alright with me, let's see what he makes.

7th Sandstone 153

He only got himself two bits of alunite, could still get awesome. You know what they tell about the masons today...

11th Sandstone 153

Uh... um... How amazingly beautiful that is! An... alunite... ear... ring... With a worth of about 4000 dwarven coins. I'm not sure whether anyone should even be remotely proud of Asen, not even his mother.

OOC: Well, I'm off to work now... goddamn late shift.

Our first FB! And it was made of RED DIAMONDS :o Too bad we can't carve up the body and get those diamonds.

Also I remember hearing that an artifact that uses either bones at all, or as the main ingredient, is bugged and the rest of the materials gathered will just cease to exist. Pretty annoying.

Would the next overseer care to write a bit more about our dwarfs? It's more interesting to have an idea about a little guy when he dies a horrible death instead of 'random dwarf x is killed'. What are their abilities, who is doing what? What gods are they praying to? - At least for the named dwarfs, it would be too much effort for 200 random peasants of course.

Hope I'm fullfilling that request properly :)
