1st Obsidian 153

The year is coming to it's end, but the bassin, which I hereby name "The Great Floodmachine" is done. There are still some issues to be taken care of, namely linking some bridges that haven't been linked till now, but the main part is done!

15th Obsidian 153

The thawing river flooded the river due to all the pressure pushing the water up the well! Oh Armok, had this to happen just before year's end? Anyway, I've already ordered uber pye to work out a way to get the water out of the hospital, but I doubt it will be done before I have to pass on...

21st Obsidian 153

I am totally fed up with this job! I want to go back to my tunneldigging and swearing, but the mayor keeps telling me I had to oversee this fort for quite a while longer. "I was doing a good job", he told me, so I will be in charge for some more time. I guess he's just too lazy to take responsibility. But I will trick him into relieving me from my post...

26th Obsidian 153

I have started the pump system to collect water in the floodmachine, it's working well so far.

28th Obsidian 153

Tonight was the night of the nights! A miner friend of mine and me started digging my name as a graphiti all over the place, when suddenly the mayor heard of my doing! he told me to stop immediately, but I continued, and so he was forced to relieve me from my duty. He told me I should finish it anyway, now that I got punished for it, so it does look ugly at least, rather than ugly and unfinished. Hurray!!!

OOC: heya! I'm done for... uh... sorry if the flooding machine isn't working correctly, I didn't have time to test it out. May the next players have funFun with it! the control room allows for lifting single drawbridges, the levers in there are arranged in the same way the bridges are in he machine. The blue lever starts and stops the water flow, the yellow one was intended to lift all bridges at a time, but, well, I was too lazy to qeue all the linking jobs. The hospital is still flooded, could not work out a fast way to drain the water from it, so you either have to develop one, or just wait for next winter and build a diagonal connection in the connection tunnel between well and river via constructions. Here (yes, dffd is down :() is the save, and Good Luck!

Luckily I have a lack of homework this weekend. I was going to start making a fort in my .17 world, but this is more important.

It's the first time having a fort this size and complexity, and my first community game, so it is my prediction that much Fun will be had, both in game and in the thread.

So I start tomorrow, oh boy :D

2nd Granite, 154, Early Spring
I am so overwhelmed by this turn of events that I let an entire day pass. EvilTwin says I am the fortress overseer, so I shall oversee the fortress. I see that the entrance is flooded, if Armok wills it, it won't be a problem.

3rd Granite
I have found a lever in the river waterwheel station below the flooding machine. I will order a dwarf to pull it, as I assume it will start the filling of the reservoir once again.

I am correct!

6th Granite
I am appalled at the lack of utilization of the volcano, so I will start the construction of a workshop area over the volcano, only accessible from underground. Then we will be able to make green glass and forge metal without the use of charcoal or other fuel.

7th Granite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I see that the cavern pools are close to the volcano. Perhaps I should breach the volcano, I wonder what will happen. And who'd stop me? I'm the overseer.

Concurrent to the construction of the magma forges, I will start digging down further. I will find precious metals deep in the earth. Strike the earth.

8th Granite
I missed the underground magma forges completely! Construction on the second magma forges has been canceled. I feel as dumb as an elf.

11th Granite
I have dug into yet another cavern and so have ordered the miners to dig around and continue on the path. I will dig the deepest any dwarf has ever dug!

13th Granite
The mining operation goes slow, so I have canceled various mining operations to speed up boring into the bottom of the volcano. I also have seen fit to arming various lollygagging dwarves with picks and telling them to strike the earth. All is well at Swordviper.

17th Granite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A light blue metal has caught my eye, and so I have ordered a tunnel dug to it. The tunnel passes quite close in between magma pools and progress is too slow for my liking.

I will be the overseer Swordviper will remember. My efforts will be legend. I must return to my quarters and think of the next course of action.

OOC: first post! Might post more today. How am I doing? Any tips on writing my updates would be appreciated :D

27th Granite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have left my quarters and I see that all the water from my predecessor's reservoir has evaporated, there is an error in his pump stack design, but I am no mechanic. I cannot find the flaw. I have no choice but to ignore the reservoir from now on. It's not important, as the miners are digging further downwards. They've reached undiggable molten rock, and so I have directed them to dig around until they get the blue metal I saw. I will make a name for myself yet.

3rd Slate
Zasit Egenrith, the trader has become very secretive. A strange mood has overcome him. We will see what he makes.

4th Slate
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Zasit has claimed the carpenter's workshop, and has started running off to find what he wants. He isn't complaining, so it seems our supplies are sufficient for his needs. I fear that he will create a useless item.

8th Slate
Zasit draws pictures representing stone, glass, wood, and metal. I do not understand as the fortress has these resources in abundance. Zasit will not be satisfied if he doesn't look further. I must keep focusing on digging downward.

12th Slate
Zasit has added cloth drawings to the list of demands. The dolt cannot even see that we have everything a crazed dwarf would ever need for a crazed project!

20th Slate
I had almost reached my long sought after ore when a party of migrants arrived! Curse them, they will eat all the food that should be goin to the miners. Oh well, they will be able to haul supplies around and act as buffers in case of attack.

21st Slate
Damn! I was almost to the fabled blue metal when the miners struck more semi molten rock! We will keep digging from different directions, but I fear I will have to displace the magma to reach my prize.

22nd Slate
Curse the miners, for they have come to another dead end! It will take a terribly long amount of time and resources to drain the magma sea!

26th Slate
I have breached the part of the volcano that I vowed I would. I think, however that it might become a danger. I am building a wall to block it off.

27th Slate
I am so stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid. I will have to block off the entire cavern, the lava flow is unstoppable! Luckily there is another cavern should I need it.

28th Slate
I've forbidden all the doors to the cavern, and I've decided to drain an underground lake onto the magma sea to create mineable obsidian.

5th Felsite
The miners have discovered another vein of the blue metal as they were digging the flooding channels! I will have my prize yet!

8th Felsite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Praise be to the miners! We have struck raw adamantine! Production of adamantine goods will commence immediately! Swordviper will be legend!

9th Felsite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What is this? The miners have found a strange location indeed. Oh no! Demons arise from the location! They are at our doors! I do not know whether to take up arms against them or barricade the walls and hide!

We will fight.

The door to the adamantine vein is shut and locked until the soldiers are in place. I will lead them and destroy the demons. Death and glory!

Blood for the Blood God!!!

OOC: I didn't expect to hit demons so quickly. I am stupid. This is that Fun everyone's always talking about... And it's awesome.

so we, uh, survived?  :o

EDIT: btw, it isn't the pumpstack which is maldesigned, it's the powersupply. for some reason the whaterwheels stop to produce energy from time to time...

Yeah, it's a very bad thing, especially since we are now under siege by goblins. I'm doing way worse than I thought I would!

Actually I got the reservoir to work consistently. It's almost full :D
