influenza: can it be done?

can influenza be modeled under the current poison system?

there should be some sort of 'background' air virus that is always on, having 1/1000 of chance of contaminating a dwarf, rising to 1/100 in autumn and winter.

are there some way for that, or effects are tied only to specific contaminant (I think for example at the black lung stuff that has be done, using coal dust)

You could probably mod flies, rats and the like to bring infection, but no background air virus.

I know how.



If it is possible, make it an invisible gas, and have every kind of tree and cactus secrete it. That way, It makes the game more about survival and quick interaction with forests.

Vermin can inject some poison when biting, I think the vanilla cave spider uses it.

Trees and plants however cant secrete, they can only evaporate once harvested/felled. Gasses also cant be invisible, strangely.

Probabaly making vermin bite dwarves with a variety of poisons is the closest you can get. You could even mod in a sort of a plague, with the fever, blistering, bleeding, necrosis and whatnot syndromes you could do that pretty accurately.

You still wont be able to make make patients contaminate eachother though, nor would hygene have any effect on it. At least not without doing something realy weird like making dwarf blood poisenous.

Which would be an awesomely suicidal mod to make hehehe!

I've made vermin like that with a minor effect. Suddenly cats become much more useful :P.

Well after doing some reading I made a fairly decent representation of the plague as a syndrome. It's a bit weakened down right now but I think it would make good building blocks if someone want's to use them
