I'm looking for something where a single game, from start to finish, can be accomplished in a single night.
Hrm..... Anything? Most games I have played, or heard of, with a couple of exceptions, can be not only played and won, but every achivement unlocked and every secret exposed, within a 12 hour time period...

My suggestion is Majesty. The Origional Fantasy Kingdom Sim. I haven't tried any of the origionals expansions, though I do have the second one, and for the free-playability, the origional is better, though the second has better graphics, and research trees, and depending on how you look at it, interface.

12 hour time period

Oh, I long for the old days when my free time came in 12-hour chunks.  :D  These days, four hours is about the limit of my contiguous free time, and often it's a bit less, between work, sleep, household obligations etc.

You always have more free time when you're younger than when you're older... Atleast, unless you go to a private academy or somethign for school. Haha.

X3:Terr-- No, you'll never see the light of day.

Umm, hm.
If you're looking for another 4X, you could probably do Sword of the Stars. Usually it shouldn't be as bad as Civ, but there are options that can make it as bad... so I dunno. Most games against the AI don't take all too long.

Covert Action for DOS is always a nice little game to play.

Startopia's a nice game and each playing-session should not last too long.

Small galaxies on Master of Orion 2 can be finished in a night, generally.

ignore this and play a game of MoO 1.

I second Covert Action for dos, although I run it without dosbox. Got it from Home of the Underdogs
