31.12 - dwarves suddenly want to be clean?
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:44:27 pm »

Long story short, my original 2nd miner out of 3 died from magma. He managed to walk about 8 tiles and then bled to death. My miners who now have architecture and are busy making magma forges and the like suddenly seem to make it top priority to clean the under-construction halls that he walked through.

What happened here? I've never seen them do this.

What changed before they did that?

The dwarf died, and right before he died I appointed a chief medical dorf.

It's strange, now my miner is killing 4 tiles of blood POOLS every time he cleans..?

Now all 9 pools of blood are gone..?!

They clean all inside areas, apparently.

Noticed that too. Dwarves cleaning anything from dustings of clay to pools of magma. But I thought the neat-freaky-ness only started in 31.14. Though it could be 31.12

Nah, dwarves have always tried to keep subterranean floors clean, even back in the old 2D version, though they usually only do so when they're within a certain distance of it and they're on the same Z-level as the contaminant.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I've seen this happen in an older version.  Dwarves wouldn't path directly into the magma, but when i turned on a magma pump, the draw square had no magma in it, but did have some kind of dusting of molten rock.  3 legendary miners immediately ran to clean it and got vaporized.   Moral of the story, put grates over pump intake squares.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.
