Forgotten Beast Meat needs to be worth more
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:47:00 am »

It's a pretty simple suggestion. As it is, forgotten beast products have a modifier of x1. This is ridiculous. Why is giant tiger meat more valued than forgotten beast meat?

I understand that forgotten beasts give a LOT of meat, but it still doesn't make sense to me that they are on the same scale as cows. Personally, I think they should have a higher material modifier than all others except like, Dragons and Hydras and such. Value is relatively easy to come by, so I don't think this will throw game balance out of whack or anything.

Then it'd be worth more for a different reason. An ambitious young fellow cooking a grand meal for a king, perhaps?

My thinking is that not only should forgotten beast meat be worth more, it should have some long-term effect on dwarves who eat it, and the effect should be random to each forgotten beast.  Poisoning or inducing various syndromes is one possibility, but there could also be beneficial results (healing injuries, growing back lost body parts, or improvements to stats) or cosmetic changes (a dwarf's skin gradually turns blue after eating emerald fiend meat) or even gradual psychosis or other mental changes.  Clever players could then carefully isolate and test forgotten beast meat on carefully chosen test dwarves.

And raise dorfy kids on a diet of the good meats and nothing else. Platinum undulating pig meat that makes one superdwarvenly tough? Yes please!
