Gorlak
« on: October 09, 2010, 03:09:25 pm »

Today a Gorlak wandered into my fort.

My military don't seem altogether inclined to kill it, and yet it wanders around interrupting jobs all over my fort.

This is just irritating. Has anyone else encountered one of these? I'd never even heard of one up until now...

Is there any reason I shouldn't try to lock it in a room somewhere?

Have your military target it. Or use a cage trap.

Use the move command, if the kill command doesn't seem to be that effective.

I used both. They just stood around...

I currently have it locked in one of my metalcrafters' bedrooms...

It completely bypassed my other traps, I'm not certain that a cage trap would even work on it.

Yeah, I've had zombie gorlaks and one regular one show up. Unfortunately the normal one drowned as it was trapped in a cage underground when I accidentally flooded all of the caverns. My former was still perfectly happy with her zombie gorlak though.

So the cage traps DO work on them then...

Well, I guess I'll get on that, since my metalcrafter is getting bad thoughts and spamming cancellations of storing his belongings.

Given their "good nature" and "helpful advice", has anybody seen them cause happy thoughts?

If they do, then they may actually add depth to gameplay.

Aside from a happy thought if the dwarf's prefstring is for gorlaks, no. Their is nothing in their raws that would cause them to generate happiness for all dwarves simply by being seen.

I checked the raws, and I don't think they can be tamed, but I thought these were interesting:

 [CAN_LEARN][CAN_SPEAK] [PREFSTRING:impressive tusks] [PREFSTRING:stimulating conversation] [PREFSTRING:helpful guidance]

So basically, it runs around in my fort distracting everyone with its stimulating conversation and helpful guidance.

Maybe I'll just keep her in my metalcrafter's room. I'll send people in there when they are about to tantrum, maybe she can talk them out of it.
