Act III Scene 1: Floors and Numbers
« Reply #31 on: October 13, 2010, 08:06:52 am »

Granite
20 is enough. no more shall enter our glorious fortress.
Felsite
There isn't enough white material. It is time for grey, the neutral color.
We are now sealed off from the rest of the world. They're too unclean for our fortress anyway. Especially those filthy hippy Elves.
Hematite
Nil Asrernomal has withdrawn from society and has claimed control of the forge. I believe he also collected a bar of iron and several animal bones. we're glad to be rid of the ghastly things. He made a rather nice-looking shoe.
Limestone
The patterns are going well, with the newly constructed floors having four directional symmetry, down to the materials. Graebeard complained about this other "Morul" fellow, who cannot tell the difference between slate and shale. Because I do not want to be added to the people who he takes a dislike to, I will have to make sure that the walls are either explicitly patterned or made of the same material. Better do that for the floors too.
Timber
Argembarger is shouting about something. I wonder what he wants.
He's taken the mason's workshop. We need that.
He seems to be making something out of iron and obsidian.
Hmmm. an obsidian millstone. not very useful, as we have no means to power a millstone.
Obsidian
Apparently nobody decided to make any drinks, and I only noticed this when Argembarger dropped dead in front of me.
OOC:And another fort falls victim of FUCKING PLUMP HELMET SPAM FILLING THE BARRELS AND NOBODY BEING ABLE TO MAKE BOOZE.
These corpses are disgusting. But fifteen is also a good number.
Time to let someone else take charge

anyway, for whatever reason the yearly save didn't happen, and it's now the third of granite.
Next person.
I'm not in a storytelling mood.
Sorry argembarger.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Oof.  Did you make it to the second or third cavern?  I was hoping there'd be a good place to put a well down there.

Anyway, only a neurotic bastard would seal off the outside world even if that meant no more booze.  You'll fit right in.

Whoa.

I died really friggin' fast.

This seems to be a theme among my dwarf personas in many fortresses.

The record for fastest argembarger death is at THREE SECONDS AT 60FPS. I named him just before he died.

OK fivex, it looks like you're up!

The map is here and the save is posted above.

I added a couple POI's to the map.  I gotta ask, lolghurt, how the heck did we end up with naked mole dogs locked on top of the tower and getting a tan?

Edit: I obviously can't read a list correctly.

Also apparently out civilization is extinct...
19th felsite:
ELVESSS
Wait why don't we have a trade depot?
24th felsite:
CRAP I accidently killed Graebeard in a cave in.
18th hematite:

Bye elves!
19th galena: A theif got off with an artifact...
1st granite:
And my turn is oer.
How uneventful

Well they got in at some point, i was too busy making the tower taller.
Then they interrupted every single one of my set jobs, so i tasked the military to kill them. They dodged off the wall and onto the area i think you're talking about.

This is a feature, not a bug, correct?
You're playing Dwarf Fortress.  There isn't much of a distinction.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

I will just type this out of alphabetical order for right now, I will edit it to properly represent the insanity of enosX later.

5th GRANITE
I didn't feel that my election to overseer warranted much notice, but now that I have had a few days to order my companions around, I noticed something most terrible, the cats are attacking our cave spiders!  We must install "anti-cat" traps in the caves...(I am going to make the cavern entrance a danger room so the stupid cats dont deplete our cave spiders...)  Also, I have designated an area to be dug that will be sufficient to house all the dead for many years to come (Hopefully you never kill off more dwarves than this will hold...its fairly large.)

13th FELSITE
Work has been suspended on the catacombs until we can properly deal with all the stone that will be excavated.  Until then, the central shaft has been extended deeper and we have struck a second cavern.  Work to wall this off as we did the first is progressing well, but the walls are being built from Olivine here in the flesh of the earth.  We will leave the white alunite to shine in that terrible sun.  We also have an area to set up a well walled off just north of the farms, almost entirely completed, when it is we will have water for any wounded in the future.
Also, a mountain goat was found wandering around near the second cavern...how did it get here....

10th HEMATITE
Our soldiers were interrupted with their task to liberate goods from the elven merchants through somewhat violent means *cough* by the forgotten beast Urtum!

EDIT:  I left the save 120 miles away...So, timewarping xD
