Before I edited, my suggestion was simply the extra cash bit. At the moment, giving newcomers $1000 income from their home territory for, say, three or four turns should work alright. Actually, it should probably be 1500, given the fact that most players have had time to build up their armies and conquer land. I'm trying to work out how to explain my method for getting this number, but I'm having trouble.

I very much dislike the idea of limiting the number of units that can be recruited in a particular country.

Well, I've been thinking about limiting troops numbers in anyone country for 15 turns or so but have seen no need for it yet. Can you explain why you oppose such move? For me it has several advantages: 1) Sending one militia to grab a defenceless country across the ocean and then raise a huge army of doom there next turn just doesn't feel right. 2) Countries with high population like China/India/Brazil would be much more interesting. And 3) It prevents somebody with a lot of cash to steamroll someone else out of nowhere.

Sheb, you are just forgetting on very important little detail. WE'RE ALL CLONING OUR SOLDIERS. Remember now?

Well, you still need to equip and feed them, build those tanks, staff the cloning facilities, take care of the clone as they're growing...

We're mostly evil empires who'd have no problem forcing millions of people to move halfway across the world if it suited them, and have the resources to do so. It should take only a few hundred people at most to produce clones. It should be possible to apply cloning to the food supply. The only place where you've got a point is about equipment manufacture. In real terms though, it impinges on the fun, and that should be what this is about. You're changing something that doesn't need changing, and doing it because of a new rule. You should fix the new rule rather than change something else.

For the "Raise huge army of Doom", see the third word in the first sentence. There's already a lot of cash to be had in most high population countries. And for point three, the players can deal with that themselves. For example, if I suddenly decided to attack RAM and didn't warn him, I'm sure the other players would gang up on me.

I'm absolutely against giving new players 6 units of MBTs, because that's what your current proposal amounts to. Using your method, if a player joined right now, they would get a lump sum of $500*24, which is $12000. With that, someone could buy: 120 Militia, 30 Regulars, 15 Maranpers, 11 Commandos and 5 Militia, or, like I said before, and skipping the rest of the vehicles, 6 MBTs. (I worked most of those out in my head, just by the way) What I propose is that they instead get the money over several turns as a boost to their income, for example ($500*T)/10 each turn for 10 turns, where T=turn the player joined.

That would mean that a player joining now would get ($500*24)/10=$1200 extra income each turn for the next 10 turns. Gives them a bigger income than most current players for long enough that they can build up an empire, in small enough increments that it doesn't give them too much of an advantage. Much better.

I don't really see as I would refuse cash, and it would have to reduce my tendency for a first strike...

Stuff.

Much better! You found exactly what I wanted: A simple, easy-to-use, formula, that take every situation in account. Well, the turn should be up tonight, and players that joined later should have some extra bucks. :)

Turn XXV

HEADLINES: November 2012

8th New York Time: Sarah Palin elected U.S. president

The year is 2012.

Liberal President Barack Obama ends his first term with approval ratings in the low 20's, and is succeeded by hardcore Arch-Conservative Sarah Palin.

With Conservatives sweeping into power in the House of Representatives and Senate, and a Conservative majority in the Supreme court of the United States, commentators are hailing it as the beginning of a new conservative era.

President Sarah Palin has asked the new Congress to move quickly to rubber stamp hes radical Arch-Conservative agenda. The left seems powerless to stop this imminent trampling of Liberal Sanity and Justice.

12th Washington Post: Obama Found Dead
Obama was found shot in his bedroom this morning. An organization called the CCS is claiming the attack. Given the recent elections, Sarah Palin became the new president instead of Joe Biden.

15th Le Figaro: French Army getting ready for more.
With the launch of the new Triomphant class nuclear submarines, the French Navy now operate more ships than at any time since WWII. The Army is posting new divisions of conscripts at the border. "If only the Air Force was as good, we could hold the Poles away forever." said Admiral Édouard Guillaud, Chief of the General Staff.

28th Fox News: "Friends Of America" aid program launched.
President Palin launched a new aid program to help countries supporting the United States worldwide. "Don't worry, we'll pay for it by ending Medicare and Medicaid: No more budget deficit" said the White House spokesman.

Okay, now that I see it written there, the bonus to new players does seems rather big. I'll wait a few turns, but I think I'll shorten it to 5 turns instead of 10.

Hrm, if I somehow manage to destroy America, would the funding end? Also why the hell is Demonic Spoon getting aid? He already has a stable empire.
Also, I better soften up America a bit before invading them...

Operation Liberation, Secret File #001, Advanced Psy-Team Insertion.
Commander Phantom, one for not allowing the conservatives to come to power, readily commands the Psy-Teams to insert ideas of rebellion into the once proud American public. The aid must end.

Revenue: $1342
-$500, splice Human and Monitor Lizard DNA to create Lizard Men. Hey, wouldn't they heal quick?
-$500 Component Tower Research.
-$300, 3 Militia in Alaska.
-$42, Cuban Invasion Day is made, commissioning a Statue of the Jump Jet Troopers in many territories I own.

Armies:
The ones in Cuba celebrate. Tis is a joyous time for GDI.
Light Tank, Honduras, invades Guatemala. (Generous Mercenaries for staying.)

Demonic Spoon is a latecomer too.

As for the help, no it wouldn't end. I just needed something to explain why some empires were suddenly getting craploads of money.

Well, at least the aid gives me a reason to invade America. I shall the conquer the Confederate States of America. They shall fall. Also, I have a feeling that I should have assassinated Sarah Palin when I chose Alaska as a starting area.

As if the thousands and thousands of $ a turn wasn't a good enough reason to invade the US.   :P

Beware of attacking the nuke-wielding superpower though. ;)

I'm planning to just make America collapse through of it's own people, ah, the glory of Rebellions. Anybody want to contribute to Operation: Collapse America? Anybody who contributes will get royalties of $500 per turn for about 5 turns when I conquer it.

Shouldn't the regulars in Argentina be done resting now? And only 1 of the regulars in Bolivia is entrenched.

Actions:

Fire that idiotic scientist, from a cannon. Wonder why we don't have backups, digital and otherwise. This isn't the 20th century anymore.

Finances:

Money: 26
Revenue: +2396
Make 1 Commando in Bolivia: -1040
Research Improved Economies: -1382
Savings: 0

Army:

Have 1 Regular and 1 Marine from Bolivia and 1 Marines from Argentina invade Paraguay.
Have 1 Commando, 1 Marines and 3 Regulars from Argentina invade Uruguay.
Have third commando in Madagascar entrench as well.
